The Department of Physics provides its students with rigorous training in both physics theory and practice giving them a deep understanding of problem-solving mathematical and computational methods and a broad-based experimental training. Students studying physics have countless opportunities to conduct research as early as freshman year through Drexels renowned cooperative education program and in faculty research and worldwide collaborations.
Our faculty members lead world-class research programs in a wide variety of disciplines including astrophysics biophysics high-performance computing condensed matter physics nanotechnology particle physics and physics education research. Faculty and students work side-by-side to explore the full range of universal phenomena. The department has a large and vibrant undergraduate program as well as an active and highly-ranked Masters and Ph.D. graduate program.
Job Summary
The Department of Physics seeks an outstanding educator for a one-year appointment as a full-time 12-month Visiting Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is September 1 2026 with classes starting on Tuesday September 22 2026. The primary responsibilities will be teaching Drexels large introductory-level service courses but duties may also include undergraduate instruction at all levels.
The successful candidate will employ a variety of strategies to foster student learning including encouraging active learning promoting an inclusive classroom environment maintaining proper course-related records and promptly providing students with feedback as to their progress toward meeting the course objectives. Teaching responsibilities may include face-to-face or online instruction during the day or evening.A full-time teaching load consists of 12 credit hours per term which typically corresponds to 3 courses or lecture sections.
The appointment will be for 1 year with no possibility of renewal.
Essential Functions
- Teach a maximum of 12 credit hours per term
- Provide outstanding instruction in all areas of undergraduate physics
- Supervise of Teaching Assistants
- Mentor of undergraduate majors
- Promote of an inclusive classroom environment
- Other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Physics
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience at the university level.
