Position Summary
BHA Drivers provide safe reliable transportation for individuals served staff and materials across programs and community locations. This role ensures compliance with transportation policies safety standards and traffic regulations while creating a respectful supportive and client-centered environment.
Drivers serve as a front-line representation of BHA by promoting professionalism confidentiality reliability and safety. This position works closely with program teams and Behavioral Clinicians to support individuals through consistent transportation routines and implementation of behavior support strategies as trained.
This is a safety-sensitive position requiring continuous alertness safe vehicle operation passenger supervision and the ability to respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Missouri Class E license with an S or P endorsement CDL with endorsement or out-of-state equivalent
- Clean driving record and ability to maintain insurability
- Two (2) years of professional driving or transportation experience preferred
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities behavioral health needs or medical needs preferred
- Ability to pass required drug screening physical and background checks
- Strong commitment to safety professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to remain calm and responsive in high-pressure situations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail with vehicle inspections documentation and reporting
- Knowledge of defensive driving practices and vehicle safety procedures preferred
- Crisis de-escalation or passenger assistance training preferred
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely transport individuals served staff and materials according to assigned routes and schedules.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report safety or maintenance concerns.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Assist passengers with boarding exiting vehicles and mobility equipment as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and provide respectful compassionate interactions.
- Follow all traffic laws transportation procedures and organizational policies.
- Complete required documentation including mileage logs trip records and incident reports.
- Communicate transportation concerns behavioral concerns or incidents promptly.
- Collaborate with program staff and supervisors to coordinate transportation needs.
- Participate in required trainings meetings and ongoing development.
- Represent BHA positively by promoting dignity inclusion and safety for all passengers.
Additional Requirements
- Participate in pre-employment and annual Human Performance Evaluations as required.
- Participate in required drug and alcohol testing and physical examinations.
- Complete all required documentation and reporting requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
