Role Overview

The Traveling Project Manager provides overall management direction on mechanical construction projects valued up to $10 million at project sites away from the home market. The role carries full accountability for scope budget schedule quality and safety leads each assigned project in partnership with the designated project superintendent and serves as the primary point of contact for clients general contractors and field leadership.

This is a travel-based role. Most assignments involve travel during the week with weekends at home and a relocation package is available for candidates who prefer to move for the duration of an assignment. A per diem is provided in addition to base salary. Current project work sits primarily in West Texas and North Texas.

This role may be filled at varying levels including Traveling Project Manager and Traveling Senior Project Manager based on the candidates skills experience and overall qualifications. Final title level and compensation will be determined through the interview and assessment process and will be aligned with internal equity and external market benchmarks.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide overall management direction on one or more mechanical construction projects up to $10 million at project sites away from the home market with accountability for scope budget schedule quality and safety
  • Lead each assigned project in partnership with the designated project superintendent and control project development through administrative direction of the superintendent
  • Evaluate the contractual scope of work and plan organize and staff key project positions through regional department heads and general superintendents
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the client general contractor and architect and engineer team and attend job progress meetings
  • Negotiate prepare and issue subcontracts and manage subcontractor and vendor performance
  • Prepare issue and update the master project schedule and variance reports to hold schedule and budget
  • Manage all financial aspects of contracts including costs billings collections and change orders and actively pursue additional work through change orders
  • Manage risk; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures before they reach the schedule
  • Ensure project document controls comply with contract requirements through closeout and as-built delivery
  • Supervise and mentor project managers assistant project managers and project engineers assigned to the project
  • Ensure compliance with safety programs contract terms and applicable codes and standards

Required Background

  • 4-year mechanical engineering or construction science degree or commensurate levels of technical training and related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical construction project management experience including commercial industrial healthcare higher education pharmaceutical semiconductor or data center projects
  • Willingness to travel to project sites during the week with weekends at home or to relocate for the duration of an assignment
  • OSHA-30 certification or the ability to obtain it within six months from date of hire
  • Proven ability to manage scope budget schedule quality and safety on projects up to $10 million
  • Working knowledge of mechanical HVAC and piping systems construction methods procurement practices and applicable codes and standards
  • Project management skills across documentation cost control procurement scheduling change order pricing and negotiating
  • Ability to work autonomously and exercise a high level of judgment on a remote jobsite
  • Valid drivers license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record
  • Authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Prior experience running projects on a travel or per diem basis (Preferred)
  • Experience managing projects valued at $10 million or more (Preferred)
  • Hyperscale data center hospital life sciences or semiconductor project experience (Preferred)
  • Experience with design-build or design-assist mechanical delivery (Preferred)
  • PMP or relevant professional certification (Preferred)
  • Bilingual English and Spanish (Preferred)
