We are seeking a motivated and dependable Culinary Assistant to support the Culinary Academys daily food service operations. This non-instructional temporary position works closely with Chef faculty to assist with food preparation cooking customer service catering special events and food truck operations.
This position is located at the main campus or Tech Center but may report to all Blue Ridge CTC locations as required to meet the needs of the position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Chef faculty with food preparation and cooking
Demonstrate appropriate culinary skills
Support Bruin Café operations
Provide excellent customer service
Assist with catering events and special functions
Support food truck operations
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation
Follow food safety guidelines
Regular work requires a great deal of standing lifting bending and stretching.
Willingness to work some weekends and evenings as needed
Assist with inventory and stocking
Work collaboratively with staff
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
Culinary training preferred
Food service experience preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required
Ability to read and follow instructions
Excellent customer service skills
Work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work independently
Must have a strong aptitude for math
Must have a professional appearance
Ability to follow health department regulations for hygiene
Must have a basic knowledge of simple food preparation safety and sanitation.
Ability to stand for extended periods (6 hours)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Temporary position intended to work through at least September 2026.
