Job Summary:This position provides operational and technical support for on-premises and virtual server infrastructure. The Systems Administrator I assists with server configurations software installations patching activities monitoring and day-to-day operational support. This role works under the direction of senior systems staff to maintain system reliability security and availability. The position also supports the district identity management environment and participates in backup integrity validation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

  1. Assist with routine server patching and updates using district tools (e.g. Microsoft SCCM) under direction of senior staff. Help verify patch compliance document results and escalate issues.
  1. Assist with provisioning and configuration of virtual servers using approved templates in VMware following established procedures. Update documentation perform basic post-deployment checks and coordinate changes with senior staff.
  1. Support SAN/NAS storage operations by completing assigned tasks such as monitoring capacity assisting with disk allocations and collecting information for troubleshooting. Coordinate with vendors and senior staff as directed.
  1. Support backup and recovery operations by running assigned backup jobs reviewing alerts assisting with periodic restore tests and documenting results. Escalate failures and anomalies to senior staff.
  1. Assist with support for non-Windows servers and vendor-provided (black box) services including basic installation support and routine checks.
  1. Assist with server security monitoring and logging by responding to notifications performing initial triage and escalating security concerns per procedure.
  1. Support the district identity management environment by processing approved account and group changes performing routine maintenance tasks and validating changes in accordance with documented procedures. Assist with Active Directory group and permission updates as assigned.
  1. Provide operational support to the server team by assisting with ticket intake documenting work performed and coordinating routine tasks with Technology Assistants and other staff as needed.
  1. Support the server teams daily operations by helping track and prioritize incoming work assisting with task coordination for Technology Assistants and helping onboard/train new Technology Assistants under the direction of senior staff.
  1. Assist with researching reviewing and testing upgrades to existing services and evaluating potential new software and services by gathering requirements performing basic test steps documenting results and escalating findings as needed.
  1. Assist with installing and removing server-related equipment and cabling connections following established standards. Help maintain inventory records for equipment parts and supplies and assist with general physical upkeep of servers and the server room.
  1. Attend district meetings team meetings and trainings as required.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned consistent with scope and intent of employee assignment.

Reporting Relationships:Reports to the Director of Technology Operations.

Working Conditions:Required to meet inflexible deadlines; required to concentrate mentally and visually for extended periods of time; occasionally required to deal with distraught or frustrated people; occasionally required to work flexible and irregular hours to complete tasks occasionally required to lift and carry equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds; required to operate a motor vehicle and drive between sites; manual dexterity and precision required to make network connections and operate a computer.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

This position requires either the completion of a two year post-secondary degree program in a related field and an MCSA/MCSE certification plus one-year paid experience in server support OR three years paid experience in server support. Requires experience installing and supporting servers running Windows Server 2016 or later managing accounts and groups in Active Directory and managing Windows servers and Active Directory using PowerShell. Experience supporting any of the following is preferred: Linux servers MECM NetApp storage devices or Cohesity. Experience using any of the following is a plus: Group Policy; Remote Desktop Services; Carbon Black; Bash or Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of basic troubleshooting techniques for network connections; ability to read write and communicate technical information effectively; ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others; ability to work irregular and flexible hours as required; ability to establish effective work priorities and to plan and organize work effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.

Licenses/Special Requirements

Valid Washington State drivers license.


Salary:2025-26 Non-Represented (NNRAP) Professional/Technical Salary Schedule(salary will be updated according to the 2026-27 school year salary schedule once it has been approved);Level IV; placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA: Non-Exempt.


Work Year: 12 month position 260 days per year 8.0 hours per day.
