Position Purpose
The STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Teacher Assistant supports the STEM Teacher in providing engaging hands-on learning experiences that promote critical thinking problem-solving creativity and collaboration among elementary students. The STEM Teacher Assistant assists with classroom instruction preparation of materials supervision of students and the integration of technology and STEM-based activities to enhance student learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Assist the STEM Teacher with the implementation of STEM lessons projects and activities.
- Support individual students and small groups during hands-on learning experiences.
- Reinforce instructional concepts and skills introduced by the STEM Teacher.
- Encourage student participation inquiry and problem-solving.
- Assist students with the use of educational technology robotics coding platforms engineering tools and other STEM resources.
Classroom Management
- Help maintain a safe organized and positive learning environment.
- Supervise students during classroom activities transitions and STEM lab experiences.
- Assist with behavior management strategies and classroom procedures.
- Monitor student engagement and provide feedback to the STEM Teacher.
Materials and Technology Support
- Prepare instructional materials supplies and equipment for STEM lessons.
- Organize maintain and inventory STEM resources tools and technology devices.
- Assist with the setup operation and storage of STEM equipment and materials.
- Report damaged equipment or supply needs to the STEM Teacher or administrator.
Student Support
- Provide assistance to students with diverse learning needs.
- Encourage teamwork collaboration and effective communication among students.
- Support students in developing problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Assist with student projects presentations and STEM-related events.
Administrative and Other Duties
- Assist with recordkeeping data collection and documentation as requested.
- Participate in professional development opportunities related to STEM education.
- Support school STEM initiatives family engagement events and extracurricular STEM activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or STEM Teacher.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic STEM concepts and educational practices.
- Ability to work effectively with elementary-age students.
- Ability to follow instructional directions and support classroom learning objectives.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate educational technology and learn new software applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students staff and families.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree completion of at least 48 semester hours of college coursework or successful completion of a state-approved teacher assistant assessmentrequired.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Basic technology skills and interest in STEM education preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand walk bend and move throughout the school day.
- Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to supervise students in classroom laboratory and outdoor learning environments.
Terms of Employment
Employment is based on the school districts approved calendar salary schedule and policies. Evaluation shall be conducted in accordance with district procedures.
