Design the spaces that shape how care is experienced. As Sr. Interior Designer youll translate vision into environments that elevate healing support clinical excellence and bring Stanford Health Cares brand to lifeone space at a time.
This role leads interior design projects for clinical research and administrative projectsdeveloping finish palettes end-to-end FF&E delivery and interior documentation that elevate safety durability and our SHC brand standards. Youll collaborate closely with architects engineers contractors and clinical stakeholders to translate complex needs into functional inspiring spaces that align with healthcare codes ADA standards and sustainability. Youll manage multiple projects simultaneously balancing creativity with rigor to keep schedules aligned budgets on track and details resolved in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Facilities Planning & Design clinical stakeholders consultants and contractors
Apply interior design standards for finishes furniture and branding to ensure consistency and quality
Bring strengths in project management design literacy stakeholder communication and experience in healthcare institutional or corporate environments
Serve as an individual contributor in a primarily hybrid role based in Palo Alto CA

A Brief Overview
The Senior Interior Designer leads interior design direction and standards for complex highrisk or highvisibility healthcare projects. This role provides technical and strategic leadership for finishes and furnishings fixtures and equipment (FF&E) integrating clinical workflows infectionprevention considerations sustainability goals wayfinding strategies and Stanford Health Care (SHC) brand standards. The Senior Interior Designer is accountable for endtoend delivery of interior finishes and FF&E scopesincluding design development procurement coordination installation oversight and quality verificationfor major renovation and construction projects. The role applies expert judgment anticipates risks mentors designers and drives continuous improvement of interior standards methodologies and materials.

What you will do
- Lead and direct interior finishes and FF&E scopes for complex missioncritical or multiphase healthcare projects.
- Serve as the primary interiors representative to project leadership clinical operations and governance stakeholders.
- Resolve competing priorities among infection prevention patient experience clinical workflows constructability constraints and longterm maintenance.
- Develop interpret and evolve SHC finishes and FF&E standards; evaluate and approve deviations based on project needs regulatory criteria or operational impacts.
- Assess and pilot new materials products and furniture systems for healthcare applicability durability safety and sustainability.
- Own FF&E budgets; lead procurement approaches longlead tracking and installation sequencing for active clinical environments.
- Lead valueengineering efforts that preserve clinical performance and safety; proactively mitigate project risks and reduce change orders through early coordination and expert evaluation.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Designers; reinforce quality consistency and adherence to healthcare standards.
- Support onboarding and capability development within the interior design team.
- Lead resolution of complex requests for information (RFIs) substitutions conflicts and field conditions.
- Coordinate closely with vendors furniture suppliers general contractors architects and procurement on product submittals fabrication installation commissioning and closeout.
- Authorized to make final decisions on finishes and FF&E within SHCs approved standards and strategic design framework.
- Independently evaluate and balance infection prevention patient experience safety cost durability and operational performance. (P4 requirement: major improvements and highdiscretion decisions).
Education Qualifications
- Bachelors in Interior Design/Interior Architecture or related field required.
- Masters in Interior Design/Interior Architecture or related field preferred.
Experience Qualifications
- 7-10 years of experience in healthcare interiors finishes or FF&E for complex construction projects including procurement and installation.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of specifications FF&E design infectioncontrol materials sustainability and healthcare durability requirements.
- Deep understanding of Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) requirements California Building Code (CBC)/Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance and Department of Healthcare Access and Information (HCAI) processes relevant to finishes and interior systems.
- Strong leadership in stakeholder facilitation issue resolution and crossfunctional communication.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit AutoCAD Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe CC) Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to lead quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes interpret complex design issues and mentor Designers.
- Ability to innovate interior design methodologies improve functional processes and evaluate emerging products for enterprise use.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $52.69 - $69.82 per hourThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity experience education specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
