Job Description:
Join the L3Harris Technologies Spectrum Superiority team as a Mechanical Engineering Specialist focus on Design for Excellence for advanced communication equipment supporting defense this role you will be responsible for the mechanical design and producibility of mission-critical hardware throughout the lifecycle of the product.
Essential Functions:
- Develop optimized mechanical solutions for ruggedized defense communication equipment including enclosures chassis thermal solutions cable routing and other hardware assemblies with a focus on size weight and suitability for harsh military environments.
- Apply Design for Excellence (DfX) principles including manufacturability assembly test reliability maintainability and sustainment to improve product robustness environmental performance and compliance with program requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical systems manufacturing quality supply chain and program management to drive design solutions that balance cost performance and producibility.
- Create and maintain mechanical design documentation including 3D models engineering drawings tolerance analyses and engineering change packages.
- Partner with internal teams suppliers and manufacturing organizations to resolve producibility challenges and improve design maturity for production readiness.
- Support prototype builds design verification and validation testing root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Contribute to product qualification and risk-reduction efforts related to shock vibration thermal performance and environmental requirements.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with SIEMENS Teamcenter and NX
- Experience with military standards such as MIL-STD-810.
- Experience with Open System Standards such as VITA and SOSA.
- Experience with SAE AS6500.
- Experience with ASME Y14.5.
- Experience Earned Value Management (EVM)
