Job Summary:
A highly skilled and innovative Mechanical Engineer to perform design development analysis prototyping manufacturing and validating precision components and mechanisms as well as integrating mechanical assemblies in a program team environment. Program support and technical leadership including but not limited to requirements definition trade studies design sensitivity optimization studies assembly integration and testing.
Able to drive projects from concept through manufacturing and final operational test. Candidate must have proven expertise in CAD modeling FEA simulation for thermal/structural design for manufacturing and ensuring compliance with stringent AS9100 design Candidate must be able to work independently or within a multi-disciplined team environment.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary Engineering Team through system requirements design analysis test hardware build delivery and launch.
- Defines and establishes the technical approach to meet assigned objectives. Including:
- Mechanical Design:Experience with Precision Mechanisms Mechanical Systems GD&T (ASME Y14.5) Tolerance Analysis Electro-Mechanical design and motion systems.
- Simulation & Analysis:FEA (Ansys) Thermal-Structural Analysis Modal Analysis.
- Prototyping & Manufacturing:Rapid Prototyping Machining Molding Assembly and Testing sometimes within an aggressive timeline.
- Software:Experience with Siemens NX or other high-end integrated CAD/CAM package.
- Develops and performs testing to show proof-of-concept and/or qualification of new designs.
- Prepares reports formal documentation and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and present results to both external and internal groups including leadership and customers.
Qualifications:
- Requires a Bachelors Degree in Engineering Physics or a related field and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Option: Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related lieu of a degree a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Experience in the design and sustainment of complex Mechanical Systems preferably in a Commercial environment. We want to bring commercial practices to DoW Programs.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoW Top Secret security clearance.
- Must be a U.S Citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Familiarity with maintenance and sustainment practices for complex systems.
- Proficiency in design and 3D modeling of solids surfaces and assemblies (primary CAD tool will be Siemens NX)
- Drafted detailed drawings with GD&T collaborating with vendors for custom fabrication.
- Proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis for mechanical designs.
- Performed advanced FEA on precision components enhancing structural integrity and reducing failure rates.
