Primary Purpose
Provide specialized instruction and support to junior high and high school students with disabilities in a resource classroom setting. The Special Education Resource Teacher will provide individualized and small-group instruction to students who spend part of their instructional day in the general education classroom. The teacher will design and implement lessons aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) monitor student progress collaborate with general education teachers and parents and ensure compliance with all federal state and district special education requirements including regulations established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Valid Texas Special Education certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of special education laws procedures and Texas Education Agency regulations
Knowledge of the ARD process and development/implementation of IEPs
Ability to modify curriculum and instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively with administrators teachers paraprofessionals parents and outside agencies
Knowledge of accommodations modifications behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and progress monitoring
Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to integrate technology into instruction and documentation
Experience
Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
Experience in secondary special education or resource instruction preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional and Program Responsibilities
Provide direct instruction in a resource classroom setting to students receiving special education services.
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with student IEP goals TEKS and district curriculum requirements.
Provide individualized and small-group instruction based on student needs and learning levels.
Modify instructional materials assignments and assessments as required by student accommodations and IEPs.
Monitor student academic and behavioral progress and maintain documentation of progress toward IEP goals.
Administer assessments and collect data necessary for instructional planning and ARD meetings.
Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and student success in mainstream classes.
Assist students in developing academic organizational social and functional skills necessary for success.
Implement behavior intervention plans and classroom management strategies as appropriate.
Ensure compliance with all state federal and district special education requirements and timelines.
ARD/Compliance Responsibilities
Participate in Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings.
Assist in the development review and revision of IEPs and related documentation.
Maintain accurate complete and confidential special education records and reports.
Ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented consistently across instructional settings.
Communication and Collaboration
Maintain ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress and needs.
Collaborate with counselors diagnosticians speech therapists administrators and other support staff.
Participate in faculty meetings staff development and required special education training.
School and Community Involvement
Support the overall mission and goals of the school district.
Participate in campus activities committees and other duties as assigned.
In a small school environment assist with additional responsibilities as needed to support student success and campus operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise assigned paraprofessionals or instructional aides if applicable.
Frequent standing walking bending and lifting of instructional materials
May be required to assist with student behavioral or physical needs
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS).
Terms of Employment
Employment is based on the school district calendar and board-approved contract terms.
