Job Summary

Piedmont Global a Strategic Globalization Organization (SGO) is looking for experienced Spanish Language and Cultural Instructors to provide language training mentoring at the School of Language Studies at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (Formerly FSI). This opening is for the following duration:

Duties
  • Plan and conduct group Spanish language classes in a small-group setting onsite at NFATC campus in Arlington VA.
  • Use established materials and work collaboratively with the LTS and other instructors on the team on training and/or testing matters.
  • Assess students progress and provide feedback; consult with the LTS and adapt teaching techniques to the students individual needs.
  • Conduct informal and formal progress assessments to evaluate students progress.
  • Provide a respectful student-centered environment and offer encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain an online classroom environment through the Foreign Service Institutes Learning Management System.
  • With pre-approval by the COR plan and/or participate in non-classroom activities in the Washington DC area


Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Educated speaker of Spanish (preferably Level 4 or higher on the ILR scale).
  • Cultural background Hispanic culture or Spanish-world studies.
  • BA/BS MA/MS Ph.D. or foreign-equivalent degree(s) in any field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Spanish to adult learners (two or more students).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching Spanish with proficiency-based or task-based curricula.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience administering proficiency-based assessments (serving as an FSI tester or rater administering DLPT or OPI exams or administering task-based quizzes or weekly assessments).
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills e.g. email Microsoft Office Suite and online meeting software (Zoom Skype MS Teams WebEx).
  • Experience with hybrid teaching.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing foreign language instructional material and/or curricula.
  • Experience teaching with the communicative approach to language teaching and incorporating a range of educational technologies in teaching.
  • Experience delivering training targeted to the needs of the diplomatic community.

Required Skills:

Educated speaker of Spanish. 2 year(s) of classroom experience teaching Spanish language to adult English-speaking students. 1 year(s) of teaching experience in a small-group classroom setting. Must possess the cultural background of the country and geographical region. (raised or educated in the county).
