Job Summary
Job Summary Software Engineer (Mainframe Java) (8 Yrs)
- Assist client with modernization efforts migrating from legacy mainframe (COBOL) systems to modern Java tech stack.
- Analyze design develop test and debug complex computer software and applications.
- Develop and maintain mission-critical enrollment system applications using both COBOL and Java environments.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define system scope objectives and establish project baselines.
- Break down software requirements and design highly complex systems and solutions.
- Create test (unit/integration with Junit/TestNg) and document critical application programs.
- Work as part of a matrixed agile/scrum team following established project standards and processes.
- Utilize Java technologies including Spring Core Spring Boot Spring MVC and Spring Integration.
- Develop and integrate web services with a strong understanding of RESTful/SOA services.
- Apply extensive experience in Agile or Scrum methodologies for software development projects.
- Participate in regular (1-3 times/month) onsite team meetings in Reston VA (primarily remote position).
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of assigned project tasks and deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Preferred: experience with API management tools GIT/BitBucket and health insurance customer systems.
Required Experience and Skills:
- 8 years of software development experience.
- Application development expertise in COBOL (CICS JCL TSO/ISPF ChangeMan Topaz etc.).
- Java development experience (including unit/integration testing).
- Experience with Java Spring technologies.
- Experience with web services (RESTful/SOA).
- Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education:
- Bachelors degree (or 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
Location/Work Arrangement:
- Primarily remote; occasional onsite meetings in Reston VA.
- Must reside in DC MD VA or WV.
