Software Development Engineer, AWS EMR

Amazon EMR is the industry leading cloud-native big data platform for processing vast amounts of data quickly and cost-effectively at scale. Using open source tools such as Apache Spark Apache Hive Apache HBase Apache Flink and Presto coupled with the dynamic scalability of Amazon EC2 and scalable storage of Amazon S3 EMR gives analytical teams the engines and elasticity to run Petabyte-scale analysis for a fraction of the cost of traditional on-premises clusters.

We are developing innovative new features including our next-generation cluster and work management system improvements for real-time processing of big data and ways to enable customers to more easily interact with their data.

In this role you will have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from senior and principal engineers who are domain experts at AWS. You will be part of a collaborative and growing team working on complex problems for a successful and long-running product. You will have an opportunity to learn and influence how our customers use EMR for a wide variety of use cases. You will get to work with a lot of AWS stack DynamoDB Lambdas API Gateway CloudFormation EC2 etc. (Where can you learn AWS technologies better than at AWS itself)

We dont need you to be an expert in distributed systems as you will have a chance to learn with your team although a good understanding of the basics will help you ramp up. We value engineers who love what they do and are passionate about their work. We appreciate curiosity and craftsmanship over knowledge in certain frameworks.
Use and knowledge of GenAI tooling will be a plus.

- 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

- 3 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
