Our EMI team in San Diego CA is always looking for great talent and especially people who enjoy solving difficult problems in a creative way. Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) applies engineering mechanics materials science numerical simulation innovative technologies and collective expertise to solve our clients toughest problems in an inspiring work environment that nurtures life-long learning and growth. A successful candidate for EMI may work on design analysis licensing/regulatory and research projects related to buildings bridges pipelines nuclear facilities tanks rail vehicles rotating equipment precision observatory structures and other non-building critical infrastructure systems.

In this role you will work alongside the Principal in EMI San Diego to manage delivery of projects including complex finite element analysis structural dynamics seismic design for extreme earthquake events design of rotating and vibrating equipment supports pressure vessels liquid storage tanks vibration mitigation impact/blast aircraft impact assessment anchorage to concrete and equipment seismic testing and certification/qualification. Partnering with a diverse range of owners agencies utilities and research organizations you will bring broad perspective and creative solutions.

Location: San Diego CA. preferred. Newport Beach CA or Remote will be considered.

What Youll Be Doing:

SGH has an opening for a Senior Project Manager (SPM). This is an experienced technical manager leadership-track and shareholder position with responsibilities generally consistent with ASCE Grade V and will include the following:

  • Design emphasizing constructability simplicity standardization and risk-informed criteria as core principles to support economical facility construction.
  • Engineering challenges involving safety efficiency reliability and natural hazards in highly regulated markets
  • Specialized expertise in structural dynamics soil-structure interaction seismic engineering technology development and risk and reliability assessment for energy-related assets and complex infrastructure systems.
  • Concept design and detailed design for mission critical facilities: advanced nuclear facilities fusion energy facilities U.S. Department of Energy facilities hospitals U.S. Government defense facilities.
  • In a supervisory capacity plans develops coordinates and directs a large and important engineering project or a number of small projects with many complex features.
  • Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives critical issues new concepts and policy matters. Consults with supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments.
  • Supervises coordinates and reviews the work of a small staff of engineers and technicians estimates workforce needs and schedules and assigns work to meet completion date.
  • Able to work with a degree of independence such that approach results and judgments are subject to a final review by the Principal-in-Charge without major rework.
  • Proven ability to prepare major reports.
  • In consultation with the Principal-in-Charge develops project scope and budget and successfully manages to time quality budget and schedule goals.
  • Able to prepare proposals for complex assignments.
  • Deals directly with clients.
  • Able to apply knowledge of risk management and contract negotiation procedures.

What Youll Need:

SPMs apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. SPMs make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and they represent the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. Requires the use of advance techniques and the modification and extension of theories precepts and practices of sciences and disciplines. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work results from progressive experience.

  • 8 years of relevant civil engineering experience or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Professional licensure required.
  • MS or PhD with a concentration in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field from an ABET- accredited university.
  • Excellent personal qualities especially ethics and honesty. Gets along well with others and provides enthusiastic help and support when appropriate.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic commitment to SGH.
  • Possesses abilities in areas consistent with the specific needs of SGH.
  • Excellent technical and professional capabilities.
  • Dedication to high standards and the pursuit of excellence; commitment to QA/QC procedures.
  • Excellent technical and professional reputation among peers.
  • A track record of professional activities and professional recognition e.g. by authorship of papers and articles and/or by active membership in professional groups.
  • Dedicated and competent in contributing to the technical and professional development and advancement of the staff.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Compensation:

The below range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidates experience qualifications and work location.

Base salary is a part of SGHs industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary pay for extra hours worked an annual discretionary bonus program generous paid time off and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGHs Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
