Overview:

Quinnipiac University invites applications for a Senior Learning Designer Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Learning Technologies to join ourQuinnipiac Innovations in Learning and Teaching (QILT) team.

QILT partners with faculty academic programs and colleagues across the University to create dynamic inclusive and student-centered learning experiences that advance academic excellence and Quinnipiacs strategic this role youll bring together learning science creativity technology and curiosity to help faculty imagineand buildthe next generation of learning.

As a Senior Learning Designer youll be a strategic partner and thought leader working alongside faculty and academic teams to design high-quality learning experiences across online hybrid and face-to-face environments.

With a specialty in artificial intelligence and emerging learning technologies youll help the Quinnipiac community navigate whats possible whats practical and whats pedagogically meaningful.

Responsibilities:

Learning Design and Instructional Development (25%)

  • Design develop and review high-quality online hybrid and face-to-face courses in collaboration with faculty academic programs subject-matter experts and QILT colleagues.
  • Align learning outcomes assessments activities instructional materials and educational technologies using evidence-based practices such as backward design Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and learner-centered design.
  • Support program-level design and review by connecting course decisions with program goals curricular coherence accreditation requirements and student learning outcomes.
  • Where appropriate serve as the learning design lead for complex or high-priority course and program initiatives.
  • Establish and apply quality standards for accessibility inclusion engagement usability and academic integrity across instructional modalities drawing on recognized frameworks such as Quality Matters where appropriate.
  • Support adoption and adaptation of the Canvas base course template consult on program-specific modifications and advise on Canvas tools and approved integrations to improve teaching effectiveness usability and student learning.

Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Learning Technologies (25%)

  • Consult with faculty and academic programs on the appropriate responsible and pedagogically grounded use of enterprise AI tools in teaching learning and research.
  • Design and evaluate AI-enabled and technology-enhanced learning experiences including simulations conversational tools adaptive experiences interactive learning resources and multimodal content.
  • Explore pilot and evaluate emerging AI capabilities and learning technologies in relation to defined learning teaching or research needs.
  • Conduct iterative testing with faculty improve usability accessibility and learning effectiveness.
  • Manage a portfolio of course program service-area and innovation projects providing consultation and project leadership across the project lifecycle.
  • Scope complex instructional design and technology projects; establish outcomes deliverables timelines roles dependencies and communication plans.
  • Coordinate cross-functional project work and maintain clear documentation decision records technical resources and implementation guidance.
  • Contribute to intake prioritization resource planning and service design to support sustainable and equitable access to QILT services.
  • Define success criteria gather stakeholder feedback and outcome evidence and recommend whether pilots and solutions should be scaled revised sustained or retired.
  • Conduct project retrospectives document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of QILT processes and accessibility privacy security academic integrity transparency prompt literacy copyright bias and fairness and responsible AI principles throughout design and implementation.

Faculty Consultation and Development (20%)

  • Consult with faculty and academic programs to identify instructional needs and select appropriate evidence-based strategies technologies and support models.
  • Guide the design of authentic assignments assessments simulations and learning activities that appropriately use constrain or exclude AI and other technologies in alignment with course and program outcomes.
  • Support faculty in addressing academic integrity transparency accessibility bias privacy and equitable participation in technology-enhanced learning environments.
  • Design and facilitate workshops learning communities consultations and faculty-development programs on learning design digital pedagogy AI literacy and emerging learning technologies.
  • Develop program-specific faculty-development strategies professional learning pathways and reusable guides examples tutorials and toolkits that build AI literacy across varied levels of faculty experience.
  • Assist faculty in developing clear course-specific AI expectations assignment guidance and syllabus language.
  • Support faculty and researchers in evaluating appropriate uses of AI for inquiry analysis communication and discipline-specific practice within relevant institutional requirements.

Project and Portfolio Management (20%)

Manage a portfolio of course program service-area and innovation projects providing consultation and project leadership across the project lifecycle.
Scope complex instructional design and technology projects; establish outcomes deliverables timelines roles dependencies and communication plans.
Coordinate cross-functional project work and maintain clear documentation decision records technical resources and implementation guidance.
Contribute to intake prioritization resource planning and service design to support sustainable and equitable access to QILT services.
Define success criteria gather stakeholder feedback and outcome evidence and recommend whether pilots and solutions should be scaled revised sustained or retired.
Conduct project retrospectives document lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of QILT processes and services.

Leadership Collaboration and Mentorship (10%)

  • Mentor Learning Designers and other QILT colleagues on AI through consultation collaborative design technical guidance and peer review.
  • Partner with ITS university libraries academic integrity leaders accessibility partners academic units and other stakeholders on learning design AI and emerging technology initiatives.
  • Where appropriate represent QILT in relevant working groups committees professional networks and university initiatives.
  • Monitor developments in learning science digital pedagogy AI and educational technology and share relevant findings with QILT and university partners.
  • Develop evidence-based recommendations effective practices and implementation guidance for AI and emerging learning technology initiatives.
  • Contribute to QILT service improvement team learning and other teaching-and-learning initiatives as assigned.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree
  • Masters degree in instructional design educational technology higher education learning sciences computer science information technology or a related field is required
Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in learning design instructional design educational technology or a related field including demonstrated experience with artificial intelligence and emerging learning technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of learning science and instructional design methodologies including adult learning theory backward design Universal Design for Learning (UDL) authentic assessment and learner-centered design.
  • Demonstrated experience leading course and program design across online hybrid and face-to-face modalities and aligning instructional decisions with learning outcomes program goals and applicable accreditation requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency with a learning management system preferably Canvas including course architecture templates modules rubrics outcomes analytics and tool integrations.
  • Applied knowledge of inclusive teaching digital accessibility and the development of accessible multimodal content in accordance with WCAG and other applicable standards.
  • Experience consulting with faculty and subject-matter experts and leading faculty-development programs workshops or communities of practice.
  • Strong project and portfolio management skills including project scoping planning prioritization stakeholder communication risk management documentation and delivery.
  • Experience with AI platforms such as ChatGPT Edu Microsoft Copilot Canvas IgniteAI and Adobe AI tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of generative AI capabilities limitations and applications in teaching learning and research.
  • Ability to assess emerging learning technologies and connect their capabilities to defined pedagogical needs and measurable outcomes.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to use configure evaluate test document and troubleshoot AI-enabled or technology-enhanced learning solutions within approved platforms.
  • Knowledge of prompt design AI system behavior evaluation methods bias privacy security transparency and responsible AI practices.
  • Knowledge of educational data privacy FERPA intellectual property accessibility and academic integrity requirements related to instructional technologies.
  • Excellent written verbal presentation and facilitation skills including the ability to translate complex pedagogical and technical concepts into clear practical guidance for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring colleagues graduate assistants or student employees in project-based settings.
  • Strong collaboration relationship-building facilitation and influence skills across disciplines and organizational units.
  • Commitment to inclusive excellence accessibility academic integrity and equitable technology implementation.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in higher education a teaching and learning center academic technology or faculty development.
  • Quality Matters certification or comparable demonstrated experience applying a recognized course-quality framework.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS and their application to learning design and content optimization.
  • Experience designing simulations immersive or extended-reality experiences adaptive learning interactive learning experiences games learning analytics applications or media-rich instructional resources using tools such as Articulate Rise H5P or comparable platforms.
  • Familiarity with user experience or learning experience design principles and their application to digital learning environments.
  • Experience launching and evaluating pilots or innovation initiatives and supporting organizational change.
  • Experience with AI or other emerging technologies in research data analysis or discipline-specific professional practice.
