Job Summary

PGS Worldwide is seeking Secret-Cleared Engineering / IETM Technical Writers in Elkridge Maryland for a one-year onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. These positions will develop engineering and technical-manual documentation for advanced military radar and sensor systems. Depending on experience and assignment writers may focus on engineering publications Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) operating and maintenance procedures troubleshooting content structured XML documentation or related technical deliverables.

Required Skills

  • Active DoD Secret clearance required.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline or related field or equivalent military operations/maintenance experience involving radar communications electro-optics networks sensors or similar technical systems.
  • Technical writing experience supporting engineering military aerospace electronics radar or other complex technical systems.
  • Ability to research and interpret technical information from engineering documents drawings specifications and source material.
  • Experience developing clear technical documentation for operators maintainers engineers or other technical audiences.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical-writing assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers instructors technical writers and project leads.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

IETM / Structured Authoring Track

  • 2 years of technical writing experience using structured authoring applications such as Arbortext IADS MadCap Flare FrameMaker or comparable tools.
  • Experience developing structured technical content using XML and/or HTML.
  • Experience developing operating maintenance troubleshooting and preventive-maintenance procedures.
  • Experience with interactive or electronic technical manuals.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with Confluence and JIRA.

Engineering Technical Writing Track

  • Engineering technical writing experience involving technical procedures test requirement documents user manuals service manuals programming manuals operational specifications or related engineering publications.
  • Ability to work with engineering source data and convert complex technical information into clear documentation.
  • Experience supporting engineering documentation reviews and publication activities.

Preferred Skills

  • 5 years of engineering or technical writing experience.
  • 5 years of structured authoring experience for IETM-focused assignments.
  • Experience with Arbortext IADS MadCap Flare and/or FrameMaker.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-40051.
  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100).
  • Knowledge of XML SGML HTML S1000D and/or DITA.
  • Experience developing technical documentation for military radar communications electronic warfare or sensor systems.
  • Experience performing desktop publishing for technical reports whitepapers and other engineering documentation.

What Youll Do

  • Write rewrite and edit engineering and technical-manual content.
  • Develop operating maintenance troubleshooting and preventive-maintenance procedures.
  • Create technical procedure manuals test requirement documents user manuals service manuals operational specifications and related publications.
  • Author and publish documentation in page-based electronic interactive and structured formats.
  • Develop XML HTML SGML and other structured technical content as applicable.
  • Research engineering documentation program source material and technical data.
  • Develop manual outlines and technical content in accordance with applicable military and commercial standards.
  • Coordinate preparation of illustrations diagrams drawings sketches and charts.
  • Perform technical and quality reviews of documentation.
  • Work with engineers instructors task leads and other writers to develop accurate technical publications.
  • Perform desktop-publishing activities for technical reports and related program documentation.
  • Maintain consistency accuracy and usability across technical-documentation sets.

Work Schedule / Shift

  • 9/80 work schedule.
  • Full-time onsite in Elkridge Maryland.

  • Engineering Technical Writer Job ID 1964: target experience 510 years $64.84 per hour.
  • IETM Technical Writer Job ID 1965: target experience 36 years $64.84 per hour.
