As a Sanitarian Manager/Supervisor youll lead critical environmental health programs that protect the health and safety of communities across Louisiana. This dynamic role oversees areas such as retail food safety drinking water sewer systems and institutional health while providing leadership conducting inspections and investigations and supporting enforcement activities. This position requires routine statewide duties including fieldwork inspections investigations or direct services that extend beyond the employees domicile parish. These statewide responsibilities are an inherent and ongoing part of the job and may require frequent travel.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarians license plus one of the following:
Four years of experience as a sanitarian; OR
A masters degree in public health food science dairy science environmental or sanitary science or one of the physical or biological sciences plus three years of experience as a sanitarian.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. - Job Specification

- Job Duties:
- Plans implements supervises and evaluates environmental health services and activities performed by parish sanitarian staff to ensure effective delivery of required programs and services.
- Provides direct supervision to subordinate sanitarians including establishing performance expectations evaluating work performance conducting performance appraisals approving leave and travel identifying training needs and recommending disciplinary actions when appropriate.
- Oversees staff workload field activities inspection frequencies reports time and attendance records travel documentation and other administrative requirements to ensure accuracy and compliance with agency policies.
- Manages environmental health applications permits fees inspections and records associated with individual sewerage systems private water wells retail food establishments and other regulated programs.
- Conducts and oversees field inspections investigations monitoring activities site evaluations complaint investigations food recalls and enforcement actions in accordance with applicable local state and federal regulations.
- Provides technical assistance training consultation and guidance to staff individuals community partners elected officials and government agencies regarding environmental health programs and concerns.
- Directs parish Sanitarian Services during post-disaster response activities maintains staff readiness and emergency contact information and coordinates environmental health services following natural or man-made disasters.
