Job Summary
PRN opportunities available.
Under direction provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process performs technical nursing functions and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for infant through geriatric patients.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
- Provides direct patient care.
- Performs nursing functions applying professional skills.
- Documents and maintains date on patients record.
- Maintains a safe environment.
- Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.
- Provides for life support.
- Acts as a patient advocate.
- Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit department and overall hospital team.
- Participates in performance improvement.
- Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
- Performs related work as required.
- Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Conducts himself/herself effectively in stressful situations.
- Approaches situations with distressed patients families and visitors in a calm professional manner.
- Collaborates with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.
- Properly assesses and manages patient populations with appropriate intervention.
- Administers intravenous medications and / or parenteral nutrition.
- Administers blood products and evaluates patient response.
Education: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing with either an Associate or Bachelor degree.
License/Certification: La State Board of Nursing License and CPR required. ACLS and PALS preferred.
Additional experience preferred:
- One year of RN experience preferred
- Current knowledge of clinical practice.
- Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of theory principles techniques and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation administration and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
