Description & Requirements

The Knowledge Portal Network (KPN) group at the Broad Institute seeks a Scientist I to help translate research methods and community needs into robust user-facing scientific resources. This role will join the product and engagement and partner with engineers and research staff to productionize analytical methods shape technical priorities and develop standards documentation demonstrations and scientific communications that illustrate the value of our knowledge portals and data integration platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong computational genomics experience with scientific software development cross-functional collaboration and a commitment to making complex biological data usable for researchers.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
Part of the Product and Engagement team to translate user and stakeholder requirements into research engineering and delivery plans.
Collaborate with engineers and research staff to productionize computational methods data models and scientific workflows for Knowledge Portal Network resources.
Design implement and evaluate software pipelines and data integration approaches for genomic and functional genomics datasets.
Help establish and maintain standards for data representation interoperability documentation and reproducible scientific software practices.
Develop technical documentation example analyses demos and training materials that support adoption of portal resources by internal and external users.
Contribute to scientific findings through analyses figures presentations posters manuscripts and progress reports.
Contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
Engage with external collaborators and community standards efforts as appropriate to support integration within the KPN with the broader scientific resource ecosystem.
Participate in cross-functional planning troubleshooting and continuous improvement of portal features scientific content and user-facing workflows.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
PhD in bioinformatics computational biology genomics computer science or a related scientific discipline.
Strong written and verbal communication skills including preparation of technical documentation and scientific presentations.
Experience developing computational analyses scientific software or data pipelines in Python R SQL JavaScript/TypeScript or similar languages.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively on cross-functional scientific project teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience integrating genetic genomic functional genomics into databases browsers portals or knowledge resources.
Experience with data standards schemas or interoperable data representations.
Experience coordinating work across distributed collaborators consortia or multi-stakeholder scientific projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Sedentary work. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists hands and/or fingers. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.


The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to relevant skills experience education qualifications and other factors permissible by law.
