Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week every Tuesday and Wednesday Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

GBH News is a multi-platform local newsroom headquartered in Boston. Our goal -- through in-depth high-quality journalism -- is to inform educate and enlighten our audience. We cover the immediate news of the day as well issues and developments that shape our community and culture. GBH News broadcasts and streams local national and international news produces local talk shows and publishes a wide variety of locally sourced news online. We aim to reflect the diverse communities we serve in our journalism and our newsroom culture.
JOB OVERVIEW
GBH News is looking for an intrepid reporter to cover Massachusetts politics and policy. The reporter should be able to tap into Massachusetts Congressional delegation as the news demands. They should be immersed in politics and able to make connections between and among developments in the local state and national arenas while simultaneously being alert to cultural developments that shape the context of official action.
The ideal candidate should be able to translate the latest news out of the legislature examine and explain how policy changes impact the daily lives of our audiences and infuse their reports with insights and experiences from the constituents we serve.
The reporter will focus on breaking daily news for online radio and social addition they together with other members of the politics team will contribute to our newsletter and will appear (as needed) on radio television and video productions. The reporter will also serve as a general newsroom asset helping to direct colleagues working on stories with a government angle in the right direction.

What you get to do:
Working with the Senior Editor of Politics and other editors develop daily and weekly state politics and policy coverage.
File regularly and with great fluency across multiple platforms radio web social and occasionally television.
To put it in informal colloquial terms: If it happens on Beacon Hill or influences the State House know about it.
Cover general assignment reporting for the newsroom as needed.
What skills you need:
Solid news judgment and the ability to prioritize competing developments.
Strong sense of journalistic ethics.
Excellent writing and dogged reporting skills.
The ability to break news.
The ability to record and broadcast -- or the ability to quickly learn the same.
Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
Strong interviewing skills.
Strong research skills.
The ability to take photos of publishable quality.
The desire to work successfully in an open team environment.
Experience in both quick turn & longer-form/feature reporting.
Familiarity with audio/video editing tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelors degree or equivalent work experience required.
At least 3 years of experience as a reporter covering politics.
A solid track record of enterprise exclusive and breaking news reporting
