The Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Emergency Room is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to pediatric patients in a fast-paced emergency setting. This role involves patient assessment medication administration treatment planning and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The nurse will float between the Pediatric Emergency Department and Adult Emergency Department as needed ensuring high-quality care for patients with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4. Pediatric experience is required to effectively manage the unique needs of this patient population.
Responsibilities:
Provide skilled nursing care to pediatric patients in the Emergency Department.
Perform patient assessments medication administration and treatment planning.
Collaborate with physicians interdisciplinary team members and patients families to coordinate care.
Float between Pediatric Emergency Department and Adult Emergency Department as assigned.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic charting system.
Adhere to hospital policies and maintain patient safety and comfort.
Manage a typical patient load of 4 patients per nurse.
Required Skills & Certifications:
Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
Minimum of 2 years nursing experience including pediatric emergency nursing.
Strong clinical assessment medication administration and treatment planning skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced emergency environment.
Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
Experience in both Pediatric and Adult Emergency Departments.
Trauma nursing experience or certification.
Additional certifications such as PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
Special Considerations:
May be required to float between Pediatric and Adult Emergency Departments.
Weekend work required every other weekend.
No on-call responsibilities.
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.
Work environment includes Level II Trauma and Pediatric Trauma Center settings.
Scheduling:
Shift schedules include weekend rotations every other weekend.
Block scheduling is not required.
Shifts and assignments determined based on department needs and patient volume.
