Purpose of Position:
This position is tasked with the maintenance of the University waste and recycling collection program on the Santa Clara University campus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collection and separation of Campus landfill recycling and compost from across teh campus facilities including administrative building residence hall and food service facilities
- Use of large landfill and recycling compactors for waste collection as well as a cardboard bailer
- Clean and maintain all waste collection sites. No debris or large spills should remain in the collection enclosures
- Coordinate with outside vendors for the standard and special request removal of solid waste and recycled materials compost confidential paper shredding ewaste and metal waste.
- Support customer requests for specialty waste removal and pickups
- Assist with maintenance upkeep and inventory of all waste management equipment and vehicles.
- Propose process improvements that contribute to campus sustainability efforts
- Support of students staff and faculty in areas relating to recycling and solid waste removal and categorizing to educate campus about waste diversion
- Records time and materials for the purposes of cost distribution back to campus customers
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid California drivers license.
- Preference will be given to those who have had at least two years of experience with waste collection and diversion
- Ability to operate a forklift compactor and bailer
- Ability to frequently lift and move equipment and/or objects up to 65 lbs.
- Ability to follow assigned routes of travel and establish new ones when necessary.
- Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions in English.
- Ability to operate an electric tow vehicle with a train of 3 towable containers.
- Ability to operate a conventional or non-conventional vehicle equipped with either a standard or automatic transmission.
- Must be able to demonstrate a fundamental understanding of hydraulic ram operation and how to clear obstructions safely using electrical disconnects and lockouts.
