Job Summary

Viterbo is seeking two Reading Writing and Career Specialists to provide writing reading study skills and career-related support for students through individual meetings tutoring and workshops. The role also promotes HUB and TRIO services supports program activities collaborates with departments and maintains student records. Candidates should have a bachelors degree in English or a related field experience working with college students and strong communication and organizational skills. This is a permanent 12-month fulltime administrative position.

We have two positions open under this title. One will support TRIO students and relies on grant funding; one supports all students and is funded by the University. The interview pool and process will be the same for these two positions as the responsibilities and qualifications do not differ.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and advise undergraduate students in all aspects of writing and in all stages of the writing process; conduct workshops about the writing process.
  • Prepare and conduct 1:1 meetings and group workshops about various time management testing study skills and reading topics.
  • Visit classes to promote TRIO or HUB for Student Success services.
  • Collaborate with academic departments including the Education and Social Work Departments to help students achieve program writing requirements (Writing contracts).
  • Provide tutoring for the writing portion of graduate/professional school entrance exams.
  • Participate in the organization of activities and programs related to the Student Support Services program including but not limited to STAR and Early Bird Orientation (EBO).
  • Serve as co-advisor for the TRIO Tribune.
  • Serve on appointed and elected university committees.
  • Maintain accurate records at all times and complete Time & Effort reporting in a timely manner
  • Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree (masters preferred) in English or related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience working with college students.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a department that requires adaptability to changing academic needs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organized professional and sensitive to the unique needs of college students.
