Purchasing Specialist South Bend IN


Our client is seeking an experienced Purchasing Specialist to join their manufacturing team in a full-time onsite position. This role is responsible for managing purchasing activities vendor relationships inventory levels and supplier performance to ensure materials are available to support production while maintaining cost and inventory objectives.


The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with suppliers negotiating pricing tracking inventory and coordinating logistics in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position plays a key role in supporting production operations new product launches and continuous improvement initiatives.


Job Duties:

  • Create submit and manage purchase orders through the full procurement cycle
  • Verify pricing and identify opportunities for cost savings
  • Coordinate incoming shipments to ensure on-time delivery of materials
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate stock quantities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors
  • Evaluate vendor performance and support vendor management initiatives
  • Source and qualify suppliers for new products and projects
  • Maintain supplier records purchasing documentation and related databases
  • Negotiate pricing terms and service levels with vendors
  • Resolve supplier and specification issues as needed
  • Work closely with project managers to support new product introductions
  • Coordinate vendor information specifications and pricing for new projects
  • Support production by responding to planned and unplanned material needs
  • Help ensure successful project launches from initial planning through implementation

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Accounting Finance or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with vendor management inventory control and procurement processes
  • Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
  • Knowledge of SAP WMS MRP or similar ERP systems
  • Excellent organizational communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
