The Road Services Division Engineering Section Bridge Unit is currently recruiting for a self-motivated team-oriented Project Manager (Engineer III) to lead a team of project support and design engineers assigned to various Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects. The projects may include large complex bridge replacement replacing culvert with a new bridge rehabilitation repair painting or retrofit and seawall/retaining wall projects. Job Duties

JOB DUTIES

  • Lead CIP Projects: Guide multidisciplinary teams from concept through close-out for bridge and capital improvement projects.
  • Manage Project Controls: Direct scope schedule budget and change management to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Ensure Quality Control: Review civil and structural plans specifications estimates right-of-way documents and author technical reports.
  • Facilitate Project Partner Communication: Resolve complex issues and present updates to internal staff external agencies and the public.
  • Oversee Environmental Compliance: Partner with environmental teams to ensure project alignment with SEPA/NEPA and permitting standards.
  • Administer Consultant Contracts: Negotiate scopes of work cost estimates project schedules and manage Request for Qualification (RFQ) and/or Request for Proposal (RFP) processes.
  • Assist Grant Funding:Collect project data prepare supporting technical documentation and review final grant applications.
  • Assist Bridge Inspections: Serve as co-inspector identifying structural deficiencies and preparing inspection reports using the BridgeWorks program.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

  • Education & Core Knowledge:Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or equivalent with a deep understanding of structural and civil engineering design.
  • Inclusive Leadership:Proven ability to lead diverse multi-disciplinary teams and cultivate an inclusive supportive workplace culture.
  • Contract & Project Management:Expertise in contract negotiation administration scope development budget oversight and schedule tracking.
  • Technical Production:Proficient in drafting engineering reports technical memos and design plans for roads bridges and drainage systems.
  • Software Proficiency:Advanced skills in MS Office (including MS Project) Bluebeam Revu and AutoCAD.
  • Project Partner Engagement:Excellent written and oral communication skills to manage public inquiries co-lead community meetings and coordinate with interest groups.
  • Adaptability:Demonstrated success in prioritizing tasks and rapidly shifting focus in response to changing project demands.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Drivers License: A valid Washington State Drivers License.
  • Professional Licensure:A valid Washington Professional Engineer (PE) License or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire.

INTERVIEW SCHEDULE:The first round of interviews for this position is scheduled to take place the week of July 6 2026.

WORK SCHEDULE:The work week is normally Monday through Friday 8.00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but may at times require work outside of normal business hours. This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act and is eligible for overtime pay with prior supervisor approval.

EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS:This position has been designated as: Non-Mission Critical - Employees who staff county functions or services that may be delayed suspended or diverted in an emergency while essential functions are prioritized Mission Critical. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive department director or agency head all employees regardless of designation are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather.

TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT:We will work in the office at least three days a week to foster connection and responsiveness arrive prepared and on time and structure meetings with clear goals and next steps.The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking field work onsite work and meetings as needed. The primary onsite location is at King Street Center 201 S. Jackson Seattle WA 98104. Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
