is seeking a senior Technical Accounting leader to own ASC 606 accounting and revenue recognition for our renewable energy energy storage and software-enabled energy management businesses and to serve as the companys go-to author for technical accounting memoranda supporting revenue financing and other complex U.S. GAAP matters. This role will serve as the subject matter expert for ASC 606 partnering closely with finance commercial legal operations and project teams to evaluate customer contracts determine appropriate revenue recognition methodologies and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with deep hands-on ASC 606 experience in complex contract-heavy environments (EPC tolling/availability energy management agreements storage SaaS-enabled services) who can independently evaluate performance obligations variable consideration and principal-versus-agent questions and translate that analysis into clear audit-ready memoranda.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary accounting resource and subject matter expert for ASC 606 revenue recognition matters across the organization.
- Review and analyze customer contracts to identify performance obligations transaction prices variable consideration contract modifications significant financing components and principal-versus-agent considerations.
- Author clear well-supported technical accounting memoranda documenting conclusions on revenue recognition leases financing/debt and equity instruments derivatives and fair value measurements consolidation and VIEs equity method investments and business combinations.
- Partner with commercial legal and operations teams during contract negotiations to assess accounting implications and optimize contract structures.
- Develop and maintain revenue recognition policies procedures and internal controls.
- Support monthly quarterly and annual revenue close processes including complex revenue calculations reconciliations and reporting.
- Analyze and document accounting treatment for revenue recognition (ASC 606) contract assets and liabilities multiple-element arrangements derivatives and fair value measurements and consolidation and other complex accounting matters.
- Assist with financial statement preparation and revenue-related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Evaluate accounting implications of new products service offerings energy management agreements storage contracts and other commercial arrangements.
- Support external audits and collaborate closely with auditors on revenue-related and other technical accounting matters leading memo walkthroughs and comment resolution.
- Monitor emerging accounting guidance and evaluate the impact of new FASB standards on revenue and technical accounting.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls (SOX/ICFR where applicable) over revenue recognition and technical accounting processes.
- Mentor and review the work of other accounting team members on ASC 606 and technical accounting questions.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required..
- 8 years of experience in public accounting technical accounting revenue accounting or corporate accounting ideally including time in a Big 4 or national public accounting firm.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise applying ASC 606 in complex multi-element contractual environments not just review-level exposure.
- Proven track record independently drafting technical accounting memoranda and analyses that hold up to auditor and investor scrutiny.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP beyond revenue recognition including leases debt and equity instruments derivatives consolidation and business combinations.
- Experience working with U.S.-based companies or multinational organizations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and Spanish preferred).
- Strong analytical problem-solving and documentation skills with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
