Description of Work

Salary Recruitment Range: $60881 - $70000
Salary Grade: NC17

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and up to one remote workday per week. The NC Department of Insurance trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Risk Analyst position has two primary roles. One is to provide insurance and risk management expertise and resources to state agencies universities community colleges and public entities of the State. The position administers various insurance programs required by state agencies and the public school system. The position may serve as the State Fire Marshals appointed representative on various boards commissions and task the position serves as the staff administration to the Public Officers and Employees Liability Insurance Commission (PO&ELIC) which has statutory authority for the professional liability insurance coverage of state employees. The Commission also oversees professional liability insurance for law enforcement offices and public officers of local governments.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Effective July 1 2025 candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The knowledge skills and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

Management Preferences:

  • Working knowledge of insurance principles and department regulations.
  • Working knowledge of commercial property insurance rating and practice.
  • Possession of a professional insurance designation appropriate to the specialty area. Ex. CIC CPCU AIS ARM TRA CIRP CRM AIC
  • Ability to provide clear guidance to state agencies universities and local governments
  • Skill in offering policy analysis and program improvement recommendations.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
