This position is within Career and Technical Education (CTE) specifically Practical Nursing under the Health Science career cluster. The instructor provides high-quality classroom instruction and clinical supervision aligned to CSPN student learning outcomes including professionalism communication the nursing process critical thinking caring behaviors and management of care.
Instruction occurs in classroom and laboratory settings in approved clinical facilities through High-Quality Work-Based Learning (HQWBL) and may include virtual or hybrid delivery when appropriate.
The Practical Nursing program integrates academic and technical content with real-world clinical experiences. The instructor ensures all instruction and clinical supervision comply with the regulations of the Virginia Board of Nursing (VBON) standards of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) competencies for Practical Nursing (14052).
The instructor designs and delivers rigorous relevant instruction that prepares students for licensure and supports college career and workforce readiness.
MINIMUM EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in Nursing (Masters preferred).
Current unrestricted Virginia Board of Nursing Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum of two years of recent satisfactory nursing experience involving direct patient care or nursing instruction.
Eligible for or in possession of appropriate Virginia teacher licensure.
Documentation of negative tuberculin skin test and completion of required pre-employment screenings.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of practical nursing content areas and current nursing practices.
Understanding of clinical supervision requirements and safe student oversight in healthcare settings.
Ability to plan organize and deliver classroom and clinical instruction effectively.
Knowledge of curriculum development assessment strategies and student evaluation methods.
Leadership skills to collaborate with students faculty and clinical site personnel.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Proficiency in the use of computers instructional technology and healthcare-related equipment.
NATURE OF POSITION / DUTIES:
Teach theoretical components of the Practical Nursing curriculum and supervise students in clinical practice settings.
Plan implement evaluate and revise curriculum and instructional materials in alignment with VBON ACEN and VDOE standards.
Provide direct supervision of students in clinical environments to ensure safe patient care and adherence to professional standards.
Assess student performance through written exams skills evaluations clinical observations and competency-based assessments.
Participate in student selection progression and retention processes in accordance with program policies.
Maintain accurate student records attendance clinical documentation and required reports.
Build and sustain partnerships with clinical agencies and community healthcare providers.
Maintain a classroom and clinical environment that promotes professionalism safety inclusion and respect for diverse populations.
Communicate regularly with students families (when appropriate) clinical partners and program leadership to support student success.
Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in nursing practice and nursing education.
Participate in program evaluation accreditation preparation advisory committees and local or state CTE initiatives.
Supervise students in approved CTSO activities and other out-of-classroom learning experiences.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Requires frequent standing bending walking stooping and lifting while demonstrating and supervising procedures in classroom and laboratory environments.
HAZARDS:
Exposure to normal risks associated with a lab environment including chemicals electrical tools and equipment.
UNUSUAL DEMANDS:
Work occurs primarily in classroom and laboratory settings with some offsite supervision for work-based learning. Occasional travel may be required for professional development and student events. Instruction may occur in in-person hybrid or virtual formats as needed.

Reports to the Norfolk Technical Center Site Coordinator the Central School or Practical Nursing Program Leader and Career and Technical Education (CTE) administrators.
