Pediatric Nurse Extern Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

About Us:
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Valley Childrens Hospital is a highly specialized and crucial component of a larger healthcare facility. With 42 beds it is designed to provide care for patients with high acuity needs. As part of a level 2 trauma center our PICU is well-equipped to handle a wide range of medical and traumatic emergencies. The patient population of our PICU is diverse reflecting the complex nature of cases we manage. Approximately 30% of patients are cardiac patients requiring specialized care for repair of congenital heart defects. Another 30% of patients fall under the category of neuroscience necessitating expertise in treating neurological disorders and injuries. The remaining 40% of patients are acutely ill with a wide variety of disorders. Our excellent outcomes indicate that the PICU at Valley Childrens is skilled in providing quality care for the sickest of the sick. This unit is perfect for individuals who are interested in exploring avenues to engage in critical thinking and who can work in a high intensity unit as a member of a successful team of nurses providers and support staff making a difference in childrens lives.

Job Summary:

Qualifications:

The pay rate for PNE I is set at $23.00 and the pay rate for PNE II is set at $23.43.

Education

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required)

• Current enrollment with completion of at least two semesters/or equivalent in an accredited RN Program. (required)

• Must submit transcripts showing proof of second semester completion

• Must be continuously enrolled throughout the duration of employment in an approved Work Study course at an affiliated institution (Fresno City College CSU Fresno Lemoore College College of the Sequoias SJVC Merced College or CSU Stanislaus).
  

Licenses and Certifications

• BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)

Skills and Abilities

• Advancement to PNE II is based on completion of the pediatric theory and clinical course work and successful completion of the Valley Childrens Hospital medication examination.

Additional Position Details

• Must be able to complete the full weeklong new hire/clinical orientation. Orientations are typically offered for Pediatric Nurse Externs during school breaks in December or January
