Job Summary

LOCATION: Administration Building

REPORTS TO: Directorof Business Services

SALARY: $73518- $96567(Based on degree and related experience)

SCHEDULE: 12 Month Position

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MinimumBachelorsdegree in relatedfield(Finance Accounting Business AdministrationHuman Resources etc.)required.
  • Five years work experience in amedium-to-largecompany in payroll and employee benefitspreferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour lawsimpactingpayroll and employeebenefit programs.
  • Strongunderstanding of payroll tax fringe benefitsandcompensationlaws.
  • Evidence of good oral and writtencommunicationsskillsrequired.
  • Experience workingin UKG Ready andAS400HRISsystem preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes responsibility of coordinatingthe payroll andbenefitsoffice.
  • Supervises trains and evaluatespayroll and benefits personnel.
  • Meets payroll operationalbenchmarksby managing processes;maintainingaccuracy qualityandhighcustomerservice standards;resolving problems; andidentifyingand implementingsystem improvements.
  • Meets payroll financial standards byassistingtheBusinessOffice withutilizationof AS400 functionsfor annual budgetingpurposesviamaintenance ofpayrollandpersonnelcompensation data.
  • Supportsthe Business Office in completing the annual financial audit by preparing schedules for long-term debt compensated absences and processing accruals for salaries and benefits payable.
  • Overseesadministration of the UKG electronic timekeeping system.
  • Administers annual wage and step increases for staffin accordance withcollective bargaining agreements.
  • Calculatesand processesall extra payments includinglongevity bonusesboard-paid annuities retirement payouts teacher schedule Bs etc.
  • Manages teacher leavesand dock schedules. Coordinates payment for leaves in conjunction withshort-term disability benefits when applicable.
  • Reviewsand approvespersonnel transactions for staffing changes.
  • Accruesattendancein the AS400 and updatesleavebalances in Red Rover absence management system.
  • Prepares documentation to support balancing activities for each semi-monthly payroll summarizing direct deposits employee withholdings employertaxand retirement liabilities etc.
  • Reconciles all payroll liability accountson a monthly basisby auditing information for accuracyidentifyingand resolving discrepancies andinitiatingjournal entries.
  • Overseesall plans that result in pre-tax treatment of compensation such as403b 457 board-paid annuities andsection 125 plans.
  • Preparesrequired payroll-relatedreturns and filingsincludingCity Withholding Taxes Michigan Sales Use and Withholding Taxes941s and W-2s.
  • Serves astheprimarydistrictcontactwiththe MichiganOffice of Retirement Services(ORS). Responsible for remitting requiredemployee and employercontributions uploading payroll filesmaintainingaccurateemployee recordsresolvingfile submission errorscompleting Final Payroll Details and accommodatingORS audit inquiries.
  • Servesas primarydistrictcontact withbenefit insurance communications with employeesregardingfringebenefits.
  • Coordinates annual open enrollment for benefits.
  • Distributes benefit charges acrossappropriate generalledger expenses in alignment withemployeebenefitelections andmonthly invoices.
  • Updatesbenefitrates tables for annual increases. Calculates and loadsemployeedeductionsfor medical dental vision and voluntary benefits.
  • Maintainsworkingtechnical knowledge byreviewingprofessional publicationsattending educational workshopsparticipatingin professional organizationsandestablishingnetworks.
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities asassigned by theDirector of Business Services and/orAssistant Superintendent of Business and Operations.
