Position Criteria:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1 year supervisory experience in a high volume service environment preferred
  • 2 years quantity cooking experience preferred
  • SafeServ certification preferred or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment

Performance Criteria:

  • Key holder: Opens and unlocks facility starts all equipment checks and logs equipment temperatures to ensure food safety. Setup the cafeteria and kitchen for the day. Final close down daily to ensure safety guidelines are met.
  • Data entry and records including creating and maintaining preparation lists signage production records to project for present and future production to limit waste/cost and email communications/follow up.
  • Day to day supervision guidance and training for staff of approximately 2- 3 staff members. This includes daily feedback documentation cross training on equipment/duties as well as annual performance reviews and input in site hiring decisions.
  • Managing inventory creating orders and receiving deliveries for a building with enrollment around 300 - 650 students. Coding delivery invoices.
  • Maintain equipment and scheduling for repairs including work orders. Including checking temperatures hourly.
  • Ensure food safety including temperature checks routine equipment maintenance and proper cleaning/sanitizing.
  • Developing and Delegating Job Duties
  • Assist Dietitian with Special Diets which includes reviewing Special Diet menus and guidelines developed by Dietitian reading food labels and ordering special diet foods. Additional attention is made to prevent cross contact and safe food for service. Communicates with Dietitian parents/guardians nurses and teachers related to student needs.
  • Compliance requirements including monthly supervisor meetings monthly safety training USDA posting requirements as well as preparation for passing state and health inspections.
  • Encourage increased participation in school meals programs via bulletins events challenges and additional ideas.
  • Monitor the serving area to prevent theft.
  • Approve assigned kitchen staffs time. Review verify and approve hours worked and leave time.
  • Oversee and participate in preparation of breakfast and lunch meals daily and a la carte items(a la carte sales$2000/monthly) Food Preparation including washing produce cutting mixing temping foods preparing frozen food for cooking labeling food etc.. Recording production information on production sheet. Cooking foods in commercial ovens steamer warmers microwave kettles/skillets.

  • Serve food to students.
  • Classroom treat catering- ordering pre-packaged treats packaging and distributing treats to the School Building office.
  • Verify cash deposits at the end of day.
  • Conduct end of year inventory and close the kitchen for summer if applicable.

Physical Demands: The Kitchen Production physical job demands require occasional maximum lift of 30 lbs. from knuckle (10) to waist; occasional lift waist to overhead of 15 lbs; Occasional horizontal push/pull of 35 lbs. of force; occasional maximum carry of 30 lbs. for 10 ft; Constant grip strength of 20 pounds; frequent hand coordination; frequent bending standing reaching forward; occasional crouching/kneeling or sitting.
