Set up and understand how to operate and adjust molding presses in the production of molded component parts using all safety equipment and/or controls provided for the job or machinery. Visually inspect parts and press for defects.
Perform changeover and repair of molds including maintenance installation of new tooling press operations functions and settings.
Make tooling adjustments or in process repairs in order to comply with customer specifications. Regrind/sharpen tooling or make new tooling. Perform routine safety checks on all crane and machine equipment used to manufacture or repair mold.
Other duties include but are not limited to using a hi low and assist in the training process of the mold PM techs.
Requires a mechanical background experience in the use of micrometers calipers and various other precision measuring instruments.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints basic understanding of computers and work within stringent tolerances and knowledge of S.P.C. (Statistical Process Controls).
Ability to review electronic prints using Soildworks Auto Cad or equivalent
Performing blueprint corrections and changes with Engineering Department
Completing paperwork relating to assigning work done to a particular job.
Gives a preliminary evaluation of trainees.
Ability to analyze part drawings and proposed tooling requiring a high degree of originality and imagination to visualize the tool and determine if it will meet the needs of the job and recommend changes where required.
Ability to check tool drawings for errors in dimensions fits and clearances.
Ability to plan layout and determine manufacturing methods and sequence of operations best suited to make tooling to design specifications.
Ability to use advanced shop math including geometry and trigonometry to verify dimensions and make intricate calculations for hole locations compound angles contours and reference points.
Ability to setup and operate all types of machine tools to perform difficult and exacting operations.
Ability to devise methods of holding locating and machining work of unusual shape eccentric contours and compound angles.
Ability to perform bench assembly operations including assembly fitting and lapping and make surface plate set-ups to check complex and close tolerance tooling for accuracy of location points compound angles and related dimensions and surfaces.
Ability to work from rough sketches and/or general instructions improvise temporary tooling to provide means of producing parts until regular tooling is available.
Ability to analyze problems concerned with tooling made to specifications but which fails to meet production requirements and recommend changes or alterations.
Ability to perform data-entry operations and have a basic working understanding of the computer.
Machines tools equipment and work aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this type of work: mold press surface grinders vertical mill engine lathe drill press band saw cutoff saw pedestal grinder welder Oxy Acetylene torch optical comparator precision measuring tools layout tools hand tools.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Good active learning time management communication and organizational skills.
Position has daily contact with the Production Office Tool Room Quality Department and Tool Crib occasional contact with Tool Room Engineering and Maintenance.
Perform other duties as required by supervisor.
High school diploma or GED required.
Knowledge of arithmetic is required
Basic skills in oral and written communication
Must successfully pass a skills evaluation.
A minimum of 8 years experience in mold making or mold maintenance or requires you successfully complete the State approved Mold Maker apprenticeship program and have earned State certified DOL journeymans card.
Comply with all Environment Health and Safety EH&Srules and procedures.
