Job Summary
Purpose: The Medical Biller position is primarily responsible for ensuring that all billing functions are completed with accuracy timeliness and confidentiality. This includes overseeing the input of patient data and maintaining the Patient Management system. Including all other assigned duties by the Chief Financial Officer.
Job Duties:
Carries out the mission of the organization
Assures all patients experience a welcoming greeting and helpful conclusion to each encounter
Adhere to all guidelines set forth in the finance policies
Adheres to standard procedures at The Chautauqua Center
Maintain good working relationship with staff and medical personnel
Attend meetings as directed
Availability to work variable hours including evening or Saturdays as needed
Medical Biller/Coder
Reviewing medical procedures as documented and entering Charges as directed
Obtain proper documentation for insurance verification/billing
Payment entry as directed
Assist patients in completion of sliding fee applications
Track and resolve incomplete and expiring sliding fee applications
Reconciles untracked encounters
Resolution of denied and pending claims
Liaison with insurance company representatives
Transmitting coded patient treatment information to payers and other recipients
Sending patient statements
Assists patients with resolutions to patient billing problems
Investigates and maintains Aging Receivables on insurance claims
Coordinating insurance reimbursement of care providers
All other duties assigned by Chief Financial Officer
Medical Biller and/or Certified Coder Continued:
Education/Skills/Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent is required Associates Degree preferred.
3-5 years of Medical Billing and office experience preferred.
Knowledge of FQHC CPT HCPCS ICD-10 preferred
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
Leadership and organizational skills essential
Computer skills in Microsoft products
Phone Skills - Proper phone etiquette is necessary since phone conversations with patients and insurance carriers will be frequent.
Experienced with Electronic Health Record software
Knowledge of medical office practices procedures and equipment
Knowledge of problem-oriented record keeping
Correct English usage spelling and grammar
Knowledge of community resources
Must continue to develop as a professional through in-services and education seminars
Bilingual especially in Spanish not required but extremely helpful
Must function independently have flexibility personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with patients personnel and support agencies
Must be able to work as a member of a team and independently
Must be able to walk sit stand bend twist intermittently throughout the work day
Subject to employer medical exam reference check and criminal background check
