Mechanical Engineer

Skorpios is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead the design and assembly of high precision components and tools in support of the manufacture of high-data rate optical networking products. The successful candidate will join our highly talented engineering team in Temecula Ca.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Design mechanical components and fixtures with very tight tolerances in support of sub-micron precision pick & place tools optical alignment tools and optical test sets.
• Design and build components fixtures and test stations in test requiring precision temperature control
• Mechanical design targeting highly constrained size and weight components
• Create detailed 3D drawings of high precision components in SolidWorks that enhance capabilities of existing manufacturing test and burn-in tools
• Recommend materials selection for the machined parts
• Rapid creation of prototype parts
• Mechanical assembly and prove-in of new fixtures and tools
• Collaborate with local and overseas machine shops for parts fabrication

Education:

• Bachelors or higher degree in mechanical engineering

Experience:

• Minimum 10 years of experience designing & testing high precision fixtures and tools
• 5 years of experience in SolidWorks
• Familiar with fiber optics products and working with optical fibers
• Experience in sub-micron optical alignment of lasers and fibers
• Experience with wide range of epoxies
• Thorough understanding of materials and their effects on component performance
• This is a lead role and requires someone who is highly motivated and a team-player. Must be able to share knowledge work collaboratively and support other groups within the organization
