Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary
Leidos Dynetics Advanced Materials Department is seeking a passionate detail-oriented problem-solver to serve as a Mechanical Engineer. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense space cyber and commercial fields Leidos provides responsive cost-effective engineering scientific and IT solutions.
The Advanced Materials Department is a multi-disciplinary team that provides materials engineering expertise for every phase of a program. With backgrounds in materials science chemistry/chemical engineering physics among others the department has experience in executing a variety of efforts from R&D to prototype development to supporting design and build tasks for manufacturing. Beyond subject matter expertise the department has the analysis equipment multi-physics modelling capability and experimental lab space to support activities ranging from proof-of-concept experimentation to manufacturing support.
Primary Responsibilities:
- As an integral member of the Advanced Materials Department the successful candidate will balance multiple activities including but not limited to:
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modelling for hypersonic vehicles and manufacturing components
- Engineering analysis simulations utilizing third-party software to test the mechanical and thermal behavior of components under loading
- Solving complex engineering challenges with both analytical and experimental approaches.
- Collaborating with a team management and the department to gather requirements analyze problems and design solutions for software focused tasks.
Basic Qualifications:
- Resident of Central Indiana area or willing to relocate to work on-site in Crane IN.
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Ability to work in both collaborative team environments and independently.
- Experience with CAD modelling using SolidWorks or CREO Parametric.
- Experience with analysis/coding software such as MATLAB or Python.
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing processes to help in the design of components.
- Ability to draw conclusions on necessary changes from simulation results.
- Interest & motivation in learning more about ground-breaking hypersonic technologies including vehicle and Thermal Protection System (TPS) manufacturing.
- Bachelors degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA in mechanical engineering materials science manufacturing engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes such as subtractive/additive manufacturing and casting.
- Experience with running simulations to analyze mechanical and/or thermal performance of aerospace vehicles.
- Familiarity with different numerical methods and their best use-cases.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $57850.00 - $104575.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job education experience knowledge skills and abilities as well as internal equity alignment with market data applicable bargaining agreement (if any) or other law.
