Job Summary
Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to design build and launch novel robotics hardware. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanism design prototyping and integration of robotic subsystems and must have the ability to work well both independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and detail mechanical components and assemblies for robotic hand forearm and actuator systems using CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Generate engineering drawings BOMs and assembly documentation to support prototype builds
- Support prototype fabrication assembly and integration of multi-DOF robotic mechanisms
- Perform tolerance analysis material selection and basic structural/thermal calculations to inform design decisions
- Collaborate with electrical firmware and controls engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet system-level requirements
- Conduct hands-on testing failure analysis and design iteration based on test results
- Maintain clear engineering documentation (design reports test procedures change logs)
- BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 3 years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design and advanced assemblies
- Experience with prototyping methods (CNC machining 3D printing sheet metal)
- Familiarity with common mechanical components: gears bearings fasteners seals actuators
- Hands-on experience assembling and testing mechanical hardware
- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
- Experience in robotics mechatronics or precision mechanism design
- Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Exposure to FEA tools (ANSYS SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent)
- Experience managing vendor relationships for prototype or low-volume production parts
- Familiarity with tendon-driven mechanisms compliant mechanisms or multi-DOF linkages
- Experience working in a lab/protoshop environment alongside electronics and firmware teams

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
