Marine Mechanic II

We are looking for a Marine Mechanic II to join our team who will under general supervision perform preventive maintenance on small ferry vessels execute light to medium repairs and partner with outside vendors to perform heavy repairs in conformance with agency policy.

Responsible for maintaining the vessel performing light-medium repairs and partnering with outside vendors to perform heavy repairs.

Conduct daily preventive maintenance ad-hoc repairs organize and order spare parts.

Maintain and repair high-speed Caterpillar MTU Cummins etc. diesel engines water-jet propulsion and marine diesel generators. Install maintain and repair marine electronics. Inspect and evaluate vessels primary and auxiliary systems. Ensure that machinery and machinery spaces are maintained in a safe orderly fashion compliant with applicable requirements and following good marine practice.

As appropriate repair diesel propulsion engines fuel systems lubricating systems marine electrical systems water cooling systems heat exchangers and related marine equipment. Disassemble repair rebuild and reassemble marine transmissions reduction gears manual and hydraulic clutches; and align shafts struts and shaft logs.

Sail on vessels to determine service needs and maintenance requirements; conduct test runs after completing major repairs and modifications and make adjustments to the repaired equipment during and after test runs.

Maintain inventory and order lubricants filters and spare parts for all machinery. Maintain records of all maintenance and repair work and of the in-service hours of each piece of marine equipment to ensure proper servicing of the equipment and major engine overhaul as recommended by the agency.

Perform routine inspections of the vessel and its components checking on all operating and safety equipment as well as electronic componentry to ensure that the vessel is seaworthy in every respect.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma/GED and three years experience in the servicing and repair of marine engines and related marine equipment.

Licenses/Certifications:

A valid Drivers License.

A valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) within thirty days of hire.

USCG Engineers License/Certification as a Qualified Member of the Engineering Department (QMED) is preferred.

Salary Range: The range for this position is $53.20 - $71.55 per hour commensurate with experience.

Hours of Work: Work will be performed on vessels after service hours during the week and on weekends. These hours may vary depending on the business needs of the agency. As the business needs of the agency change applicants must also be available to work any hours of operation including weekends and all holidays. The schedule for this position may vary from week to week and may include weekend and holiday work on a permanent basis.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: This position requires vision dexterity strength mobility voice and hearing capabilities as set forth in USCG licensing standards Medical Certificate ().Job duties may need to be performed in the hours of darkness outdoors at sea and in stressful situations. This position will require lifting heavy objects up to 70 pounds crouching for extended periods lengthy mechanical work in very small spaces climbing ladders and entering through narrow hatches & passageways. This position may require overtime & may be called upon outside normal business hours for consultation and hands-on support.
