Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Manages re-engineering efforts associated with safety compliance improved ride reliability and enhanced show quality for all of the high technology ride and show attractions at Universal Orlando Resort. The manager will also assist the Director in maintaining cost controls within Engineerings assigned budget. Work with the attractions to identify define and prioritize capital issues to realize optimum cost-of-ownership of Universal Orlandos assets in Rides and Shows.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage Re-Engineering efforts at the Rides and Attractions to the highest standards of safety reliability and quality. Assist the Attractions group in emergency recovery due to unforeseen occurrences at the attractions. Insure compliance with all applicable codes regulations and standards including: AISC ASME ASTM ANSI AWS JIC NEC and OSHA among others. Assure optimal use of Maximo CMMS system for planning tracking documenting and reporting of Engineering group tasks and performance as well as attraction performance. Mentor and monitor the design review process for work in progress to assure maximum efficiency in both work quality and productivity.
  • Manage staffing requirements for the assigned department including: Training Schedules Team Skills Coaching Counseling Rewards and Recognition within Company Policies and Technical Service guidelines.
  • Participate in applicable information sessions design reviews staff meetings safety meetings and other sessions that assure and encourage communications teamwork and continuing process improvement.
  • Coordinate and facilitate inter and intra-department partners and external resources including: Attraction maintenance group(s) Document Control Environmental Health and Safety Facilities Finance Human Resources Landscape and Water Quality Operations Outside Vendors Quality Assurance Security and Sustaining Engineering. Maintain and encourage within subordinates close and friendly working relationships; model by example.
  • Manage spending within assigned budget guidelines and minimize overtime worked. Assist in identifying and developing detailed budget plans for tasks and projects that reduce cost of ownership of the attractions. The factors affecting consideration should be improvements to extend life expectancy of mechanical and hydraulic components and structures provisions for recognizing and providing for obsolescence improvements to facilitate cost avoidance and enhancements to improve guest throughput and/or quality experience.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy procedures training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE:

Responsible for the operation of the UO Sustaining Engineering Department. Manage and oversee the activities of the Sustaining Engineers and provide direction for the engineering support to the UO Tech Services Department. Interact with the UO Ride/Show Maintenance Department and the UO Controls Engineering Department to ensure that technical support and training requirements are met in order to improve the reliability and operation of ride and show control systems. Provide immediate support to any UO emergency.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors degree: Engineering Electrical/Electronics Software or relevant discipline required
  • Masters degree in (list discipline(s)): Engineering/Project Management/Business preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10 Years: Experience in an Engineering environment focuses primarily on control and automation systems preferably in a theme park environment; interacting with other Engineering and Maintenance Department disciplines
  • Experience with the following is required: Allen-Bradley PLC based control systems AC and DC motors and motor control systems motion control systems show and animation control systems Proficiency with personal computers using Win95 word processing and spreadsheets Proficiency with complex diagnostic test equipment proficiency in control systems drawings and technical documents.
  • Cognizance in ASTM regulations applying to theme parks and the NEC are also required.
  • 8 years project management functions especially in the area of technical compliance scheduling and budgeting; performing technical support functions in regards to control systems motor and motion control systems

CERTIFICATIONS LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

  • Certification of Training on Allen-Bradley PLC Systems is preferred
  • Certification of Training on Motor Control and Drive Systems is preferred
  • Certification of Training on Motion Control Systems is preferred

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Working knowledge of Ride/Show Engineering strategic planning is required
  • Project Management skills required
