Position Overview:
Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Lead HIM Tech for the supervision of the Stats/Computer Office Record Room and HIM Clerks and providing daily work direction; assist in CORE measures oversight to the facility and associated duties to ensure compliance and reporting as required by the IPFQR program; serve as the Avatar Facility Coordinator. Reviews researches and resolves errors to insure data integrity within the Avatar database and proper interfacing with PDIS and the electronic health record; responsible for assigning access to end-users data management monthly statistical reporting for the hospital and providing training/assistance as needed for other users; responsible for accuracy of Western State Hospitals Census to include daily monthly and year to date figures so that room and board and cost per day figures are accurate; coordinate activities related to the integrity of the Master Patient Index at Western State Hospital; and serve vas support to the Administrative Office Specialist III for Avatar and census coverage in an effort to maintain efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure staff receive frequent constructive feedback including interim evaluations as appropriate and the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation
- Plans and schedules work assignments for HIM Department
- Reviews policies and procedures with assigned staff
- Coordinates Avatar upgrades and participates in end-user testing within the HIM Department or collectively with other departments impacted by the upgrade
- Monitors and assigns Avatar logons for Providers with coordination through IT staff
- Reports to Central Office Avatar Coordinator all requests for necessary merges of Avatar register numbers
- Provides oversight of Avatar monitoring activities that ensure data accuracy consistency and uniformity and works closely with the Admission Office and Information Center to clarify questions for consistency purposes
- Interprets Data Definitions from the NRI Manual and ensures that documentation supports the definitions provided

Minimum Qualifications

- Experience in medical coding medical records health information or related role
- Working knowledge and experience with medical terminology and ICD-10 coding principles
- Ability to independently interpret and follow oral and written rules and regulations
- Must be able to type keyboard analyze export and manipulate data and utilize MS Office including Word Excel Access and GMail

Additional Considerations

- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associates degree or higher or some college level courses in medical coding health information or related role
- Supervisory experience in medical coding health information medical records or related field
- Bilingual
- Veteran or veteran spouse
