Field Layout Trainer (Total Station / UTS) Construction Survey Technology
Position Summary
A growing concrete construction contractor is seeking a field-focused Field Layout Trainer to support and develop crews using robotic total stations (UTS). This is not primarily a solo layout role. Success in this position is defined by the ability to train crews effectively improve layout consistency troubleshoot field issues calmly and help maintain production flow across active jobsites.
Primary Responsibilities
Train field crews on total station best practices including:
Equipment setup routines
Daily accuracy checks
Layout workflows
Verification procedures
Jobsite standards
Provide hands-on coaching to foremen and crew members so teams can perform layout independently and consistently
Troubleshoot layout and total station issues related to workflow control and accuracy to minimize downtime and rework
Establish and maintain jobsite control including:
Control points
Reference points
Benchmarks
Verify protection and accuracy of field control systems
Coordinate with Superintendents Foremen and Project Managers to ensure crews have the tools and information needed to execute layout correctly and on schedule
Secondary Responsibilities
Assist with basic file organization and field data consistency to support layout workflows
Support spot checks for horizontal/vertical control and layout verification as needed
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in Land Surveying or a closely related field
25 years of experience using robotic total stations in construction or surveying environments
Strong understanding of:
Jobsite control
Benchmarks
Layout verification
Practical field accuracy procedures
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with field crews and project leadership
Patient clear and effective teaching/coaching approach
Ideal Candidate Traits
