Starting Salary Range: $56353.00 - $73290.00 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.

Position Summary: The Lansing Correctional Facility Education Coordinator is responsible for developing implementing evaluating and continuously improving adult education GED preparation and related educational services within the Lansing Correctional Facility Johnson County Adult Residential Center and Johnson County Sheriffs Office Olathe Jails. The position provides leadership for program operations instructional quality staff development student success initiatives compliance requirements and partnerships with KDOC and community stakeholders. The incumbent ensures educational services align with federal state KBOR KDOC and JCCC requirements while promoting student achievement transition planning and postsecondary readiness. This is a full-time 40-hour per week position at the Lansing Correctional Facility. This position reports to Program Director JCAE.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • Pass Kansas Department of Corrections Background Check.
  • 3 years experience in education program coordination corrections education or a related area.
  • Availability for occasional evening or weekend work and travel within Kansas.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in related education field.
  • Corrections education experience leadership experience with a team of five educators.

Position detailsinclude but are not limited to:

  • Provide program leadership and operations of the adult education/GED programs located at The Lansing Correctional Facility Johnson County Adult Residential Center and Johnson County Sheriffs Office Olathe Jails.
    • Recruit hire train mentor and evaluate instructors navigators tutors and support staff.
    • Conduct performance evaluations. Identify professional development needs.
    • Foster teamwork and collaboration among staff. Provide coaching to ensure instructional excellence and compliance.
    • Manages classroom scheduling within the facilitys spaces to ensure efficient use of rooms for all educational programming.
    • Oversee tutoring positions including scheduling communication and support.
    • Helps coordinate GED readiness programming ensuring students receive appropriate preparation and resources.
    • Oversee tablet management including distribution tracking troubleshooting and compliance with facility expectations.
    • Monitor instructional effectiveness through classroom observations review of assessment data and collaboration with instructors to ensure high-quality educational services.
  • Oversee adult education/GED program management and ensure compliance with KDOC requirements.
    • Monitor student progress and analyze educational outcomes.
    • Use program data to develop improvement strategies.
    • Establish and monitor performance goals aligned with KBOR and KDOC expectations.
    • Ensure students have access to education pathways that support postsecondary and career success.
    • Submits quarterly reports accurately and on time.
    • Uploads required documentation into the KDOC-approved platform in accordance with policy.
    • Ensures Athena data is accurate complete and updated regularly to meet KDOC expectations.
    • Evaluate program effectiveness.
    • Identify opportunities for innovation.
    • Recommend new education initiatives.
    • Implement evidence-based practices. Support expansion of career pathway and reentry-focused programming.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Johnson County Adult Education Education Navigators Correction Instructors and facility leadership.
    • Maintains consistent communication with instructional and administrative staff to support seamless program operations.
    • Works collaboratively to identify and resolve operational challenges.
    • Ensures that educational programming aligns with the needs and expectations of the KDOC Adult Residential and Olathe Jail facilities.
    • Supports staff in implementing best practices that enhance student learning and program effectiveness.
  • Provide technical assistance to educational programming within The Lansing Correctional Facility Johnson County Adult Residential Center and Johnson County Sheriffs Office Olathe Jails.
    • Maintains a thorough understanding of all educational program components and provides timely support to instructors navigators and tutors.
    • Troubleshoots issues related to instructional technology testing platforms tablets and other educational tools.
    • Responds promptly to staff requests for assistance to ensure uninterrupted instructional delivery.
  • Participate in monthly facility meetings statewide KDOC education network meetings quarterly meetings and other trainings/meetings with KDOC central office staff and partners.
    • Attends monthly facility meetings to share updates address concerns and coordinate with facility leadership.
    • Provides program updates and advocates for educational needs within the facility. Ensures continuity of representation; if the position becomes vacant the partner organization designates another employee to attend until a replacement is hired.
    • Attends statewide meetings either in person or virtually. Shares program updates learns from statewide partners and brings relevant information back to the team.
    • Engages in discussions that support statewide alignment and continuous improvement.
    • Attends quarterly meetings with KDOC central office staff facility staff and reentry navigators.
    • Shares information resources and best practices to strengthen the navigator program and overall educational services.
    • Participates in trainings and professional development opportunities to remain current on KDOC expectations and educational best practices.
