Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing materials testing and documentation across Asphalt Soils and Concrete disciplines in support of FDOT-compliant construction projects. This hands-on role works closely with field inspectors project engineers and plant personnel to ensure material quality and specification compliance. This position offers a clear pathway to grow into an Asphalt Plant Inspector role for motivated individuals.
Key Responsibilities
Perform standardized laboratory and field tests on soils and concrete materials in accordance with FDOT AASHTO and ASTM standards.
Accurately document test results.
Maintain calibrate and inspect laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Enter test data into laboratory Information management software.
Identify and report any deviations non-conformances or quality concerns.
Adhere to safety protocols and environmental compliance requirements.

Requirements
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; associate or technical degree in Civil Engineering Technology Construction Management or related field preferred.
03 years of experience in construction materials testing or laboratory work; entry-level candidates with relevant coursework or internships are encouraged to apply.
Basic knowledge of FDOT AASHTO and ASTM testing standards is a plus.
Current or in-progress CTQP certifications preferred (e.g. Concrete Field Testing Technician Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I Asphalt Paving Level I).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Word); familiarity with FDOT MAC or LIMS systems is a strong plus.
Strong attention to detail with good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in outdoor/plant environments under varying weather conditions.
Valid drivers license required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand walk and perform physical tasks for extended periods in outdoor environments.
Comfortable working in high-heat environments including asphalt plant and field settings.
