Job Summary

Position Summary

The Laboratory Analyst Chemistry (ICP-MS) is responsible for conducting routine chemical analyses of cannabis and cannabis-derived products using validated analytical methods. This role involves preparing samples operating analytical instrumentation such as HPLC GC-FID GC-MS and ICP-MS and performing data analysis under established SOPs. Analysts ensure accuracy efficiency and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards while supporting the overall chemistry workflow of the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

Analytical Testing

  • Perform chemical analyses for potency terpene profiles residual solvents and heavy metals using validated methods.
  • Prepare and process samples according to SOPs and safety protocols.
  • Operate analytical instruments (ICP-MS) HPLC GC-FID GC-MS) and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Conduct calibrations standard preparations and routine instrument maintenance.
  • Analyze and interpret data for accuracy before reporting to supervisors.

Quality & Compliance

  • Follow all state regulations ISO/IEC 17025 standards and internal SOPs.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records for testing calibrations and chain-of-custody.
  • Participate in quality control programs including blanks spikes and proficiency testing.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety policies including PPE use and safe chemical handling.

Operational Support

  • Assist in reagent preparation and inventory management for the chemistry section.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
  • Support senior analysts and management with method development or validation projects as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry Biochemistry or related scientific discipline required.
  • 12 years of direct ICP-MS or ICP-OES laboratory experience preferably in a regulated industry (cannabis food pharmaceutical or environmental).

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow detailed SOPs and regulatory protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with LIMS software a plus.
  • Strong organizational communication and teamwork skills.

Requirements

  • Must meet the minimum legal age requirement to work with cannabis in the state of New York.
  • Ability to pass a background check in accordance with applicable New York laws.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods pipette and perform repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

  • Laboratory setting with exposure to solvents chemicals and cannabis-related odors.
  • Extended standing pipetting and operating analytical instruments.
  • Full-time schedule; may require evenings or weekends to meet workload demands.

The hourly rate for this role is $30.05 per hour.
