Job Summary

Position:Lab Assistant Construction Management

Department: Academic Affairs

Type of Position: Part-time Temporary

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule Hours per week: Varies depending on department needs 12 hours per week

Starting Salary Range: $16.68 - $21.23 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.

Position Summary: Conduct lab preparation for Johnson County Community Colleges (JCCC) Construction Management courses to ensure a safe efficient and organized environment conducive to learning.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Performs advanced tasks under minimal supervision.
  • May mentor less-experienced team members.
  • Knowledge of construction safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in the Construction Management program at JCCC.
  • Two years of construction work experience.

Position detailsinclude but are not limited to:

  • Ensure class materials tools and equipment are stocked and available to accommodate lab and class schedules. Set up the lab and prep areas for scheduled classes. Ensure students have the materials and equipment needed for class and lab use.
  • Take inventory of the Construction Management programs materials and equipment within the lab and classrooms. Order and restock supplies and equipment to ensure students have materials needed for class and lab use.
  • Coordinate and/or perform equipment service repair calibration or replacement as needed.
  • Enforce and promote safety protocols and guidelines including the proper use of safety equipment.
  • Provide a safe efficient and clean work area for the students. Ensure materials are organized and stored correctly and that equipment and work areas are cleaned according to established protocols.
  • Organize the lab and classrooms and their contents in between courses.
  • Explain construction concepts and provide assistance that supports instructional needs and meets the requirements of varying class schedules. Fulfill ad hoc and last-minute requests from instructors and staff as needed.
  • Communicate with instructors regarding program protocols supplies and equipment. Maintain organized records for program activities.
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain departmental compliance with local state and federal safety regulations and JCCC policies.
  • Drive to pick up supplies and equipment as needed.
