IT Intern- Apex
Job Summary
The IT Intern provides entry-level technical support to campus staff and students under the direct supervision of the campus IT Technician or designated supervisor. This is a structured temporary learning position designed to give a current student or recent graduate supervised hands-on experience in a K12 educational technology environment while providing meaningful support to campus technology operations.
This position is not a substitute for a qualified IT Technician. All work is performed under supervision and the intern does not carry independent responsibility for network administration system configuration or data management.
- Assist with imaging configuration labeling and deployment of student and staff devices (Chromebooks laptops desktops tablets).
- Perform basic diagnostic troubleshooting on hardware issues and escalate unresolved items to the supervising technician.
- Support device collection inventory counts cleaning and storage during and between academic terms.
- Assist with basic peripheral setup: monitors printers projectors interactive displays charging carts and classroom AV equipment.
- Respond to assigned support tickets under supervision documenting actions taken and resolution status.
- Provide first-tier assistance to staff and students on password resets account access printing and common application issues following established procedures.
- Escalate any issue involving system configuration security network changes or student data access to the supervising technician.
- Maintain and update the campus technology asset inventory including serial numbers assignment records and repair status.
- Assist in tracking warranty claims repair tickets and vendor return shipments.
- Contribute to and maintain internal support documentation and how-to guides for staff.
- Set up and break down technology for testing windows assemblies staff meetings and campus events.
- Provide on-site support during standardized testing administration as directed within the limits of test security protocols.
- Maintain a professional service-oriented demeanor with staff students and families.
- Comply with all TMSA policies including confidentiality acceptable use and student interaction standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of the position and the interns supervised training plan.
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a high school community college or university program in information technology computer science or a related field.
- Basic working knowledge of Windows and/or Chrome OS operating systems.
- Demonstrated interest in technology support troubleshooting or systems administration.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and to ask for direction when a task falls outside assigned scope.
- Strong customer-service orientation and professional communication skills appropriate for interacting with staff students and families.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Prior coursework certification progress or experience with Google Workspace for Education Microsoft 365 or Chromebook device management.
- Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems.
- CompTIA A certification or active progress toward it.
- Experience in a school library or public-facing technical support setting.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to move devices and carts between classrooms and buildings.
- Ability to bend kneel reach and work under desks or in confined spaces to access cabling and hardware.
- Extended periods of sitting or standing while working at a workstation.
