The HVAC/Refrigeration Master Mechanic performs major repairs on all types of heating ventilation air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration equipment at the
Southern University Baton Rouge Campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience or training in the installation and/or maintenance of heating ventilating or air conditioning systems.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Operates and performs maintenance and preventive maintenance on heating ventilating air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
    • Repairs central a/c units window a/c units fans cooling towers refrigerators air handlers freezers heaters and boilers.
    • Overhauls and repairs pump compressors.
    • Installs compressors condensers evaporators motors pumps valves controls other units that comprise A/C and Refrigerating systems.
    • Cleans and changes air filters.
    • Troubleshoots and install motor starters on related equipment.
    • Charges systems with oil and refrigerants.
    • Requisitions parts and materials.
    • Adjust and calibrates controls.
    • Performs other related work as directed or required.


Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational

Compensation: The beginning salary is $22.52/hourly.
