Primary Function:
The HR Specialist is a hands-on HR generalist who supports the full employee lifecycle for assigned client groups within Dashiell Corporation. This role blends transactional HR coordination with generalist-level advisory support serving as a trusted point of contact for employees and supervisors across onboarding employee relations leave administration compliance and workforce operations. The position will be based in our Houston TX office and will report to Dashiells Vice President Human Resources.
Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
Onboarding & New Hire Integration
- Coordinate and facilitate the end-to-end onboarding experience for new employees.
- Ensure timely and accurate I-9 verification in compliance with federal requirements; manage E-Verify submissions and escalate exceptions appropriately.
- Serve as the primary contact for new hires during the onboarding period; monitor 30/60/90-day integration milestones and surface concerns.
HR Systems & File Management
- Maintain accurate and complete employee records in the HRIS including new hire data job changes terminations and personal information updates.
- Manage personnel file documentation in accordance with records retention policy; ensure physical and electronic files remain audit-ready at all times.
- Process routine employment transactions (transfers title changes compensation adjustments separations) with appropriate approvals in place.
- Generate standard HR reports and data pulls in support of HR team requests audits and compliance activities.
Employee & Manager Support
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policy benefits leave and employment matters in a timely accurate and professional manner.
- Provide first-line guidance to managers on HR topics including performance documentation corrective action procedures accommodation requests and policy interpretation.
- Assist in preparing documentation for employee relations conversations performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions under the direction of the HR VP.
- Escalate complex employee relations matters to the HR VP or HRBP with appropriate context and documentation.
Employee Relations
- Conduct initial intake for employee concerns or complaints; document accurately and maintain confidentiality throughout the process.
- Support the HR VP in investigations by gathering facts organizing documentation and coordinating logistics.
- Identify patterns or recurring concerns within the client group and surface trends to the HR VP for proactive intervention.
Leave Administration
- Administer FMLA ADA state leave and company leave programs for employees within assigned client groups.
- Provide timely leave notifications track leave usage maintain leave records and coordinate return-to-work activities.
- Serve as the employee-facing point of contact for leave questions; escalate complex or sensitive situations.
- Coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate leave pay treatment during approved leaves of absence.
- Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Administration or a related field required; equivalent work experience (4 years) will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum of 5 years of progression HR experience; generalist exposure required.
PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred
Working knowledge of HR principles practices and applicable federal and state employment laws (including FMLA ADA and FLSA)
Experience with an HRIS and ATS platform strongly required
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer-service oriented approach
High level of discretion and demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing writing and operating office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to occasionally stand and walk within an office environment.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Occasional travel to other offices or meeting locations.
