The HR Generalist provides on-site support to a safety-sensitive predominantly Spanish-speaking workforce advising supervisors on employee relations and compliance while escalating risks to the Regional HR Manager. This role will help to establish consistent scalable branch-level HR processes.
Core Responsibilities
Hiring & Onboarding
- Provide local support to branch hiring at the direction of the Talent Acquisition Team and the hiring manager on-site interview logistics local-hire requirements
- Coordinate and facilitate weekly orientations for incoming field and office staff in English and Spanish serving as primary presenter for operational expectations and day-to-day procedures
- Partner with HR Shared Services onboarding staff providing the in-person and regional support corporate cannot deliver remotely
- Evaluate orientation effectiveness against retention and early turnover data; recommend content or delivery changes to the Regional HR Manager
Employee Relations & Supervisor Support
- Serve as daily HR contact for employees and front-line supervisors at assigned locations
- Coach front-line supervisors on attendance performance and consistent policy application; assess where inconsistent application is creating risk and raise it proactively
- Gather facts on routine attendance and performance concerns and escalate as necessary to the Regional HR Manager
- Draft and issue corrective-action documentation for routine well-supported matters. Consult the Regional HR Manager before issuing corrective action that involves a final written warning or termination recommendation an employee who has recently engaged in protected activity or an employee with known medical restrictions or a pending accommodation request
- Escalate any harassment discrimination retaliation wage-claim or safety-retaliation allegation to the Regional HR Manager immediately and without independent investigation
Leave Accommodations & Workers Compensation
- Serve as the branch-level intake point for leave requests (CFRA FMLA PDL paid sick leave company leaves) and route to the Benefits Department; partner with HR Shared Services and the Regional HR Manager on coordination communication and case management
- Track intermittent and continuous leave usage at assigned locations; coordinate return-to-work logistics with operations
- Work within process standards and templates set by the Sr. Director of Benefits & Compliance. Eligibility and designation determinations are issued by the Benefits Department; escalate concurrent intermittent disputed or accommodation-implicating cases to the Regional HR Manager
- Support and coordinate workers compensation modified duty where available with the Regional HR Manager and Corporate HR.
- Recognize when a leave injury or performance matter implicates accommodation obligations and escalate to the Regional HR Manager before responding to the employee
Performance Training & Development
- Support the rollout and ongoing administration of the performance review cycle at assigned locations as programs are established by HR Shared Services including supervisor readiness completion tracking and follow-through on documented commitments
- Provide field-level input on program design: assess execution in jobsite-based Spanish-speaking multi-shift environment and recommend adjustments to the Regional HR Manager
- Coordinate delivery and completion of required compliance training in coordination with HR Shared Services and in partnership with the Regional HR Manager; track completion and drive follow-up on outstanding assignments
- Deliver internal and Regional HR Managerdeveloped training to field and office staff in English and Spanish
- Assess supervisor capability gaps and recommend targeted coaching or training
Compliance Records & Reporting
- Support Corp HR in maintaining personnel medical and I-9 records per EEO privacy and retention requirements in Paycom
- Execute periodic personnel-file and I-9 audits under the direction of HR Shared Services or Regional HR Manager including employee communication document collection and follow-through to closure; report systemic gaps to the Regional HR Manager
- Track HR-required training completion and HR-owned certifications; assess exposure and drive resolution with the responsible supervisor. Safety training safety certifications and jobsite readiness tracking are owned by the Safety/EHSI function.
- Prepare and interpret branch headcount turnover leave and employee-relations reporting
- Coordinate with HR Shared Services and branch operations on timely submission of required records within established deadlines
- Respond to benefits and pay questions; coordinate resolution with Benefits and Payroll department
Transfers & Offboarding
- Manage transfers and offboarding in conjunction with HR Shared Services with attention to entity and multi-location requirements
- Escalate any transfers or terminations between Valcourt entities to the Regional HR Manager before processing as these may carry separate hire and separation obligations
Branch Administrative Support
- The following supports branch operations and is expected to represent a limited portion of the role. Administrative and data-entry duties are not to exceed approximately 20% of total working time. The Regional HR Manager will review actual time allocation by task category quarterly document the result and rebalance duties as needed.
- Receive and process PTO/time-off requests for assigned locations; confirm supervisor approval enter approved absences into the branch operations calendar and submit to Payroll per established deadlines
- PENDING APPROVAL Support branch operational data entry in Computer Ease as assigned in coordination with branch operations leadership
Qualifications
Qualifications
- 3 years HR generalist experience including at least 2 years supporting California employees
- Bilingual English/Spanish able to interpret and translate
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written and spoken English sufficient to prepare documentation correspond with corporate functions and present in group settings
- Demonstrated judgment with confidential and sensitive matters
- Manages competing priorities against statutory deadlines
- HRIS and Microsoft Office proficiency
- Valid drivers license and insurable driving record required
Preferred
- Window cleaning construction roofing building services or multi-site field workforce experience
- BA/BS in Human Resources or Business Administration
- PHR SHRM-CP or California-specific certification
- Multi-entity experience
Physical Demands Work Environment & Travel
- Travel: Approximately 3040% between assigned locations and active jobsites
- Frequent and sustained sitting and standing; frequent walking during jobsite visits orientations and training delivery.
- Occasional bending stooping kneeling crouching and climbing stairs
- Occasional lifting carrying and transporting of training materials records boxes and orientation supplies weighing up to 25 lbs
