GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):

Newton Public Schools is seeking an energetic creative and highly collaborative Human Resources & Organizational Communications Specialist to help shape the employee and community experience across one of Massachusetts premier public school districts.


This unique role blends human resources operations with strategic communications to strengthen recruitment employee engagement organizational effectiveness and community trust. The successful candidate will play an important role in attracting outstanding educators supporting employees throughout their careers coordinating key HR programs and telling the story of Newton Public Schools through engaging digital and print communications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources Communications Public Relations Marketing Organizational Development or a related field.
  • Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):

Human Resources


  1. Employer branding:
    1. Produce recruitment videos
    2. Showcase employee stories
    3. Manage careers webpage
    4. Support recruitment campaigns
    5. Design hiring materials
    6. Highlight district accomplishments
    7. Strengthen Newtons employer brand

  1. Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding for ISS and LTS Student teachers and interns; verifications of employment (licensure) when needed.
  2. Forms: Stipends for moves Mileage allowance Medical reimbursements.
  3. CORI/SORI- new hires and 3-year re-CORI (reconciliation & tracking or accruals)
  4. Implement Munis updates work histories records requests verifications for finance/mortgage phone and HR Support email box PSLF.
  5. Performance of all other job-related duties as assigned.

Communications


  1. Design draft and edit a variety of written digital and video materials for distribution to the media and other outlets. This includes serving as the executive editor for the Newton Public Schools (NPS) website.

  1. Develop innovative strategies to enhance NPS visibility using social media among key audiences.

  1. Collaborate with other IT personnel in the Technology Department to support the districts internal and external communication functions.

  1. Support strategic communications by working with the Chief of Engagement Inclusion & Communications including crisis and ad hoc communications needed by the Superintendent as well as promotional materials for special initiatives and events.

  1. Strengthen and assist in improving the districts communications plan to ensure regular and reliable communication with families particularly regarding navigating the school system district policies and procedures events and opportunities for family involvement.

  1. Collaborate with Information Technology to oversee content under the direction of the Chief of Access and Engagement on managing the NPS District Website ensuring its relevance and ease of use and recommend necessary improvements to the appropriate district staff.
