Two hospitalists needed for a 24/7 inpatient medicine service 12-hour shifts on a 7-on / 7-off block $210 to $240 per hour depending on day or night rotation.

Downtown Broadway is a genuine restaurant and music district North Dakota State University brings a college-town energy and the Red River trail system runs right through the middle of town. Housing costs a fraction of what the same money buys on either coast the public schools are strong and North Dakota has no local income tax layered on top of a low flat state rate. Winters are real and residents plan around them hockey curling and a summer that everyone spends on the lakes an hour east in Minnesota.

Getting Here

Hector International Airport (FAR) sits about 10 minutes from the hospital with daily nonstop service to MinneapolisSt. Paul Chicago Denver Dallas Phoenix and Las Vegas. MinneapolisSt. Paul International is a 3.5-hour drive if you want the full hub.

The Facility

A federal teaching hospital and referral center serving eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota with a 24/7 inpatient medicine service intensive care unit full diagnostic imaging and laboratory support and an integrated electronic health record. Hospital medicine works alongside subspecialty consultants pharmacy social work and care coordination and follows Society of Hospital Medicine American Board of Internal Medicine and Joint Commission practice standards. Two hospitalists cover the service one on days and one on nights with advanced practice providers admitting alongside the physician team.

Responsibilities
  • Admit and manage hospitalized adult medical patients history and physical placement daily management and coordination of the full episode of care
  • Order and interpret laboratory imaging and electrocardiographic studies and manage medications within the scope of hospital medicine
  • Assess stabilize and determine disposition for inpatients with emergent conditions and lead code and rapid response teams
  • Review admissions recommended by advanced practice providers with a person-to-person hand-off on every admission
  • Perform core inpatient procedures including thoracentesis paracentesis lumbar puncture abscess incision and drainage and line and tube removal
  • Lead advanced care planning conversations arrange subspecialty consultation and drive proactive discharge planning and discharge education
  • Coordinate follow-up with primary care and initiate social work referrals for patients without a primary care provider
  • Document care and select evaluation and management codes in the electronic health record and take part in quality improvement and peer review activities
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Active full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state territory or the District of Columbia
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine
  • Current life support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Inpatient hospital medicine experience including critical and acute care stabilization and code team leadership
  • Comfortable in a two-physician service with a day and night rotation and advanced practice provider support
Schedule

Full time on site. Two 12-hour shift periods cover the service around the clock days 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and nights 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM worked on a 7-on / 7-off block 182 shifts per year. Day rotation pays $210 per hour ($2520 per shift) and night rotation pays $240 per hour ($2880 per shift); a mixed rotation annualizes to roughly $491000. Independent contractor engagement one-year assignment beginning December 2026 with multi-year renewal.
